Staci Ellis of Life Stuff for Kids: Emotional & Social Support for Kids

    in Radio

Think it’s easy being a kid these days? Think again: peer pressure, social pressure, finances, bullying, divorce, standardized testing, guns, drugs, school violence, abusive adults, low self-esteem, and more. These are many of the same problems that adults face, but as adults we typically have coping skills. But even though adults have coping skills, many still have difficulty dealing with these situations. So how do we expect kids to effectively handle these situations? More importantly, how and where do kids learn the social and emotional skills they need to cope with the life challenges they will ultimately face? The lucky kids will meet Staci Ellis, a child and adult psychotherapist who specializes in trauma. Years ago, Staci created a mock brochure for her young nephew which provided advice and preparation for life challenges. From that idea, Staci developed Life Stuff for Kids, a forum for kids to express and exchange thoughts on life challenges. Kids need to know they have someone to turn to for help and resources to get them through life’s difficulties. Staci Ellis knows more than most on that subject. She began as a Therapeutic Support Staff with a non-profit, served hundreds of families as a Mobile Therapist and Behavior Specialist for 15 years, then became a Trauma Therapist working with kids and adults. She taught parents and school staff behavior management skills and provided professional training on Trauma and Children to bachelor, masters, and doctoral level attendees, and facilitated a class for separating parents called Children in the Middle. After the interview, please check After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.

Michelle B (MichelleB), Cyclic Cushing's Bio

    in Health

Michelle was recently diagnosed with cyclic Cushing's. She has had a diagnosis of PCOS since she was 17 years old.

She writes in her bio: "I just recently received the diagnosis of cyclic Cushing’s. I’m not really sure how long I have actually had Cushing’s because I have had a diagnosis of PCOS since I was 17 yrs. old ( I’m now the ripe young age of 33). However looking back through labs with my endocrinologist who I see every 6 months, my ACTH levels have been elevated for a bit over 1 yr. It was not until recently January of 2015- things were going terribly wrong.

Starting in January I started to feel genuinely unwell, on a regular basis. I cant really explain all my symptoms there were so many different sensations and feelings that were seemingly different daily. However the red flag was I was having blood pressure spikes from really high, to very low back to back. I never had any blood pressure issues so this was a concern that led me to see a cardiologist. Upon tons of testing the cardio MD felt that something was telling my otherwise very healthy heart to do this and I should see a endocrinologist. (thank goodness for him) I contacted my endo and let him know…. the testing began."

CareGiverStory, is proud to have as our very special guest, Kevin O'Brien — entrepreneur, filmmaker, son, brother and a caregiver to his father. The moment I spoke with Kevin —I immediately wanted to interview him, and his family to share their amazing story.  About family  love..

Bio: Born in 1989, Kevin O'Brien enjoyed 20 years in a healthy home, under the wing of his parents Sandra and Michael O'Brien. In 2009, at the age of 61, his father was diagnosed with early onset frontotemporal lobe dementia. As the year passed, Michael's cognition decreased, and the caregiving responsibilities Kevin shared with his brother, Connor O'Brien, and his mother, increased. Those years also saw Kevin graduated CSULB with a degree in Political Science, work four years at the public affairs firm GrassrootsLab, and leap into the entertainment industry with a contractual position at NBCUniversal. Kevin now spends his time looking for his next professional avenue and working to produce The Trail, a short film that seeks to chronicle the period of time between his father's diagnosis and his 5150, a psychotic break that his father experienced, one that required his medication and speed his need for round-the-clock care.

Kenneth Jennings CEO & President, Mr. Rekey

    in Business

Kenneth's business sense and entrepreneurial passion began early - he started his first business at 13 years old selling garden seeds door-to-door. This adventure literally planted the seed that led him to start Texas Rekey Locksmith Service from the trunk of his car in 1995. The company was rebranded as Mr. Rekey Locksmith® Services when it expanded outside of Texas 10 years later.

Seeking out an inventive approach, Kenneth's vision was to provide reliable residential and commercial locksmith services at a straightforward all-inclusive price, and focus on rekeying rather than replacing locks, thereby saving the customer time and money. Kenneth revolutionized and transformed an industry that was previously known for inconsistencies by creating a reputable brand identity and multiple opportunities for market growth to its franchisees.

Today, Kenneth is a hands-on CEO, leading a unique culture of locksmith professionals who are easily recognizable by their clean, uniformed and branded appearance. He wears many hats at the company, one of which is franchise owner and also franchisee to over 20 Mr. Rekey territories. Based on his extensive, real-world operations and growth, Kenneth is able to provide franchisees a comprehensive business platform that includes everything from back-office operations, marketing methodology, company certified training, a proven support team, and industry specific tools and equipment.

During the last 35 years, Kenneth has founded more than 40 businesses and spent time studying the success of other business leaders in thriving industries and applying them to his own business ventures. He also mentors numerous entrepreneurs in his hometown of Austin, Texas.
Kenneth has two children who both play an active role in his organizations. He enjoys traveling with his wife Vicki and playing tennis.
