Today in America 1% of the population has about 35% of the countries wealth. 20% of the country has 80% of the countries wealth. That is a great gap in economic equality. We will be taking a look at the corporations and families that control our economy, control our politicians. From what we eat to what we watch on TV. Donating excessive amounts of money to Republicans and Democrats. We will connect the dots.
What role does the average person play in the grand scheme of things and how do our shopping habits contribute to either a just or injust economic and social order? We are actually more powerful than we think, and our everyday shopping patterns contribute greatly to the state of the world around us. In this episode I will discuss what I see as being the practice of Mindful Consumerism, and how we can make a conscious effort to change the world around us for the better. http://www.hermetictemple.com
WIOA: Measuring Economic Impact
Wednesday, March 4th | 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM EST
WIOA calls on workforce boards to track and report some new data elements including credentials attainment, measurable skills gain, training-related costs, and employer engagement. These figures each contribute to the economic impact a board has on its community and region. Boards are in various stages of readiness to track and meet these requirements. How can your board position itself for better and more consistent data collection, decreased lag time for reporting, and measuring the 'intangibles' like work readiness in a more meaningful way? Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI) turns labor market data into useful information that helps organizations understand the connection between economies, people, and work. Join host Ron Painter and EMSI's consulting team for a discussion of best practices already in use by boards around the U.S. and a punch list of steps you can take now for improved measurement of your economic impact in the age of WIOA.

Fernando is the author of Surviving the Economic Collapse, which is an account of his many experiences and the insights he has gleaned from them. We do not have a guest speaker so that Lena, Michelle and I can be available to answer questions about final projects and any concepts in the course you would still like to discuss/clarify/share your experience with. If there is time I (as well as Michelle and Lena) can also talk about some of the work we're engaged in outside of teaching though all strongly connected to socio-culturaI dimensions of learning. If there are particular projects that piqued your interest please let me/us know.
On this episode of Life Full Circle Radio, we will discuss the overall methods of change. Is it best to use social advocacy, economic empowerment or both.
We've have just came out of Black History Month and the commmeration of #Selma50. At the same time we have the issues of the #SAE racist rants, another #Ferguson shooting and The killing of #TonyRobinson in Madison, WI. Our country seems to be a powder keg right now, with a short fuse. All this is going on while our economy is rebounding. Most of America is simply watching this unrest like a movie on TV, instead of it being many peoples lives.

Listen to socio-political analyst Cleo Manago discuss, Two officers shot in Ferguson... Don't Shoot Them Down, Shut Them Down!
Two cops were shot in front of the Ferguson Police Department early Thursday. The shots were fired just as a small crowd of protesters began to break up after holding a demonstration in the wake of the resignation of the Ferguson police chief, who stepped down Wednesday.
St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said one officer was shot in the face, just below his right eye, with the bullet lodging behind his ear. The other officer was hit in the shoulder, and the bullet came out his back.
------As the Department of Justice prepares to release its full report into the Ferguson Police Department and Municipal Court System, it is becoming increasingly clear that the entire Ferguson Police Department may be forced to shut down.
Local authorities consistently approached law enforcement not as a means for protecting public safety, but as a way of generating revenue,” Holder said, adding that “racial bias both implicit and explicit” results in the unconstitutional execution of the law.
The thing is, though, the last department that Darren Wilson worked for, before he was allowed to transfer to the Ferguson Police Department, was also disbanded over severe issues of racism and corruption.
Fifty Five Shades of Political Economy….
Economic theorists since their inception over 200 years ago, have struggled with the question of how to distribute wealth and continue to come up short.
The author is not only criticizing capitalism, but finally has brought to the table, a new thought provoking alternative to the economic cannibalistic system.
The author’s unconventional line of attack, will raise your heart rate and make you nauseous. By the middle of the book, you might be searching for a long rope to hang yourself with, thinking that humanity is doomed…but you will be missing out on the spectacular finale.
This book is not one more economic liturgy. The author offers a thought provocative remedy to global socio-economic inequality; the rise of Ethosism.
