After immigrating to Queens, New York, Marisol has suffered alone and in silence at the hands of her abusive and cheating husband for years. Now pregnant with her second child, her desperation to save her young son and soon-expected daughter from this hell has reached its breaking point. The catalysts that finally make Marisol muster up the courage to escape are the words from her son, “Mom, get us out of here”, and the encouragement of her neighbor, Gladys. One night, she wakes her son while her husband is asleep. They escape with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Marisol is all alone in a new country with no means of support, but she knows she must find the strength to make a better future for her children.

It was so good we had to continue the conversation.
Has the Black Church Failed US?
We will continue our conversation on religion, spirituality, and faith. What is holding us back and how can we improve. We will discuss the manipulation and control that is used in the church, church code and how to decipher it, and the lack of focus on mental health, substance abuse, incarceration, and domestic violence in the community, the congregation, and the pulpit..
What are our expectations, experiences, and situations that allow and employ us to go back over and over again.
How many people worship their pastors instead of GOD? Do our churches focus more on Wealth than Health and Soul Saving? Are we representing anything different than we see in the WORLD?
We will also add discussions around the music/musicians, preacher/ reality tv stars, celebrity status, contribution, obligation, and/ or mandate to their parishioners, leadership team, and themselves.
We hope all of you will join us for this discussion of how the one pivotal force in our communities has now turned into a "joke" for many non believers and a "circus" for Christians and believers to gather and become monotonous.
Come Get on the COUCH!!!!
50 Shades of Grey
The controversy over the books and now the movie rages on and both sides continue to cling steadfastly to their beliefs, either deplorable or romantic. Now, you get to chime in with your opinion as I chat this week with both a young writer, Tracy Hancock and Chris Mallette, who advocates for domestic violence victims.
Together, we will explore the myths and misconceptions around the books and the movie and give you the opportunity to expand your understanding of the “grey” area between abuse and romance.
Tracy, having read the books and watched the movie will share her knowledge as a college graduate, writer and author. Chris Mallette is the founding executive director of the Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance in southern Oregon. Chris will impart her personal and professional expertise and insight into what the “grey” area means for all women. Writeous Talk on Love and Relationship is a show dedicated to thought-provoking content that encourages meaningful dialogue about love & relationships between single men and women who desire to be married. We'll discuss real issues that women talk about among themselves and men talk about among themselves, but rarely discuss openly between us. This show is not intended to pit men and women against one another as shows do which spark ratings/listenership, but does nothing to better our collective or individual understanding of one another which will ultimately improve the quality of our relationships. That is the mission and purpose of this show.
ABOUT YOUR HOST:
Derek Q. Sanders is a published author, blogger, public speaker, songwriter, and a musician. He has traveled the country as a musician on two consecutive tours with international spoken word artist, Mike Ellison.
On love & relationships, Derek speaks from a place of transparency and truth. He writes from two key premises (1) in the current societal landscape, women are not only undervalued, they are devalued being routinely objectified daily through mainstream media and entertainment. He provides insightful content that uplifts with truth & love. (2) There are far too few platforms that encourage open and honest dialogue between men and women that center on real issues that affect the health and well-being of our relationships. He creates that needed space.
Derek's mission is to foster strong healthy relationships by providing thought-provoking commentary that creates the atmosphere for dialogue that invites meaningful conversations between men and women to improve the quality of our relationships by finding and offering viable solutions.
