It's that time of year again and this year is a little more special. Off the Record is celebrating its five year anniversary and what better way to do it then to have our yearly roundtable discussion on what set 2014 off in music and social media (i.e. Rihanna back on IG, Elevatorgate with Solange and Jay Z, Mike Brown and Eric Garner protests throughout the country). We'll also be making our 2015 projections. My guests are feisty and know their sh*t. Tune in and I'll let you be the judge.
Past guests have included comedian and ThisIs50 host Jack Thriller, past VIBE Vixen editor, Nicole McGloster, producer Statik Selektah, rapper and songwriter Skillz, and more.

Today, we live in a society of OCD and I want what I want, rudeness. I've never been so exposed to selfish people in all my life. If your under forty your entitlement issues are horrible, If your over forty, your so stuck in your ways, get over it. And, I'm sorry, some of us are aging extremely hard and should not neccessarily brag but, step back and reassist our situations. Ugly is an attitude and not a so called physical appearance. Some of us just suck to social interaction and some of us need to get a grip upon the reality is, you need to pump your brakes and humble yourself ladies and gentlemen.
Is social media killing your BOP? Small business and medium businesses have grown to rely on social media to help them brand, "connect" and sell thier services. Some businesses pay to "boost" thier posts for a seemingly larger reach, increase thier fan bases and elevate the awareness of thier BOP. Most believe that though the stats are promising, they are not effective. Many businesses are awaking to a space of confusion, dissapointment and discouragement over things like lack of reach, connection and interactions with thier brands. Many people have seen a sharp decline in the amount of people who see thier posts. Many people have put so much time into social media that they are killing thier businesses. Social media is an illusion. Yes....it is "social" Yes, people (about 6%) will see your posts but even General Motors with 50,000 fans has realized that there is no more money and time to be wasted in trying to build the brand with face book.
We Business Hippies have awoken from this illusion as well. We are leaving face book in 2015 and we already have cut it down to no more than 20 minutes a day for our whole social media portfolio. We realized that we were killing our business through our reliance on facebook to carry our networking weight. The truth is, no one in your news feed really cares, they are not going to buy your products enough to sustain your business, They are likely to not even see your posts. "They" are not the problem. We are. So tonight we will chat about this honestly. Where we went wrong, how we have damaged our business and what we are going to do to thrive in this ADD nation. Join in the conversation!

In a recent article in The Nation, Canadian author/activist Naomi Klein posed an important question/observation: "What does #BlackLivesMatter have to do with Climate Change?" (http://www.thenation.com/article/192801/what-does-blacklivesmatter-have-do-climate-change)
On the next episode of PR 13:20, we'll look deeper into Klein's inquiry, and discuss the similarities revealed when juxtaposing the issues of social and environmental justice, the affects of rampant police brutality and unchecked global warming, and the communities and nations most affected. We'll also look at where these movements intersect and appear to be headed, and what actions can be taken to ensure that systemic change does occur, and soon, because our lives do depend upon it.
Employers are not the only ones demanding social media passwords – schools are doing so too. There has been lots of media attention about this – resulting in a surge of legislative activity on the issue. In Illinois, a new law went into effect this year allowing school officials to have access to passwords to students’ social media accounts in certain situations. The concern, of course, is how this impacts a student’s right to privacy under the Constitution and state laws. This podcast with Kelly Anderson will explore the new law and how it could affect your children.
I am interviewing marketing and branding consultant, Desiree Wolfe for the second time. Desiree is an extremely motivated entrepreneur in the marketing world. She has a knack for pairing up two people that need each other. Sort of like the matchmaker for professionals. She always has the resources to help out fellow entrepreneurs. With 2 young kids, she is very involved in family activities and constantly striving to keep the balance of a professional career, in a fast paced industry, and a happy home front.
Desiree broke away from the corporate world and is now the CEO of Desiree Marketing. She is highly focused on helping speakers, authors and coaches build their business through marketing, public relations and product launch campaign management and coaching.
She is the one who has the pink hair, tattoos and piercings! Desiree’s mission is to break the molds of professionalism and to show others that it is not only okay to let their personalities shine- it is encouraged! Last time we focused on the topic of branding. Today, we are focusing on social media, especially during the holidays!
