Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong on Opera life

    in Art

What does it take to WOW the refined world of high Opera? Join us as mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong talks about Opera, song, and life.

Born and raised in northcentral Pennsylvania, opera singer Elizabeth DeShong has been lauded in North America and Europe for her "well-cultivated" and "big, bright and pleasing" voice; EDGE San Francisco said, "“...DeShong sings like a vocal giant. The recipient of numerous awards, Ms. DeShong received the Washington National Opera’s “Artist of the Year Award” in 2010 for her debut performance as the Composer in Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. Her portrayal of Maffio Orsini in the San Francisco Opera’s Lucrezia Borgia was widely released on DVD.

Further performances of note include Maffio Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia with San Franciso Opera and English National Opera, Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Canadian Opera Company, Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Lyric Opera of Chicago, and her sensational Rosina in THE BARBER OF SEVILLE with the Los Angeles Opera.

Carol Brooks debuts Simple Grace Magazine

    in Lifestyle

About the Magazine: A 144-page digest-size monthly magazine and devotional in one, Simple Grace offers its readers a daily dose of hope. Developed with the Christian woman in mind, the heart of the magazine is a daily devotional that offers the reader a chance for reflection on the majesty of the Father (in the form of a beautiful photo of God’s creation), communion with the Son

    1.      Why is a mainstream magazine company entering the Christian market long after most faith-based magazines have failed?

    2.      Given your time serving on staff for other women’s publications, how does this hopeful magazine differ in its content?

    3.      What do you find refreshingly different about the content of Simple Grace versus some other popular glossies on the newsstands today?

    4.      Unlike other faith-based publications that can be denominationally-focused, Simple Grace crosses those lines. Why is that important?

    5.      The magazine’s tagline is “Your daily dose of hope.” Why is that concept so important to readers?

    6.      What has been the initial reaction to the first two issues of Simple Grace?

    7.      For the millions of people who love Jesus Calling, why will they also love Simple Grace?

    8.      Why is this magazine so important? What do you hope Christians will discover by reading Simple Grace?

This show is presented by Gracefully-Yours greeting cards, America's #1 inspirational cards for all seasons and all reasons.

Random Thought Thursday July 30th 2015

    in Family

Have you ever heard the expression that you whould be kind because you have no idea the battle that others might be fighting?  I try to live my life that way, but sometimes the world seems to be in so much turmoil that the small amount of kindness I put out seems to drown in a sea of negativity.  Today we'll be talking about some of the negativity and how we can respond in kindness, how we can learn to digest the media reports that are designed to elicit an emotional response rather than just report the facts and how we can reach out in peace.  There is hope and we'll definitely talk about that.  There is love and we will definitely talk about that.  Join us and be part of the solution we desperately need

    An Hour With Keith Handy

    in Comedy

Keith Handy has been composing, arranging, performing, recording, and producing original music since his childhood in the early 1980s, primarily, but not exclusively, in the style of progressive or "art" rock, including several concept albums and a rock opera.

Early on, he functioned primarily as keyboard player and support vocalist for various original and cover bands, but soon decided it was more important to focus on continued artistic growth than to navigate the internal politics of band membership. He started acquiring recording gear, learning the guitar, and going ever deeper with the crafts of arrangement and production.

In line with Keith's passion for the continual study of the creative process in all forms, he has since branched out into improv comedy (incorporating copious amounts of improvised music), computer art, programming in C++ for generative art and signal processing, puppetry and puppet making, and video editing.

Still a studio hermit, his long term goal is to make the bulk of his work available as a "box set" type multimedia package, as well as have a chunk of that collection visually interpreted as video and theatre.

When not immersed in all this complicated stuff, he is happy to drink a beer or two and play a few old songs on an acoustic guitar at your backyard fire.
