    30 Years A Slave .............

    in Real Estate

Today on "It's My House" we shall discuss the topic of  "30 Years A Slave"; no it's not a movie (yet) nor is it based on the movie 12 Years A Slave..........however when it comes to pure slavery in the form of debt slavery the net effect might not be that different.

If you have a 30 year mortgage on your home, you are a slave.  If you have a reverse mortgage or any type of mortgage on your home, you are a slave.  If you live in a large urban municipality there is a very good chance that you are a slave. At bare minimum you are living on a plantation.

We shall discuss strategies on how we can "buy back our freedom" and live a happy and prosperous life with any debts attached.

Ireland and the Slave Trade with Maurice Gleeson, MD

    in History

What role did the Irish play in the Transatlantic slave trade? Were the Irish ever enslaved or slave owners?

Join my special guest, Dr. Maurice Gleeson for a compelling overview of Ireland and the Slave Trade.

Dr. Maurice Gleeson is a psychiatrist from Dublin who works in London as a pharmaceutical physician. He is an avid genealogist and has traced his Irish family tree back to about 1800 on half of his ancestral lines. Using DNA, he was able to get back into the 1600's on one line, and this inspired his interest in Ireland's involvement with the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

SLAVE THEN, SLAVE NOW! [Setting The Tone Radio LIVE]

    in Culture

Before American slavery abolotion, the total slave population south of the Mason-Dixon line was somewhere in the likes of FOUR MILLION predominately black people. The US government instituted chattel slavery and made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS from free slave labor. The tactics used by slave owners left Black Americans and other minorities stripped of their native tongues, religion and culture. We were killed if we became literate and were taught to hate each other simply because of skin complexion.

Today, Black Americans are subjected to a NEW form of slavery. Many feel that the effects of slavery in the 18th and 19th century are still felt today. We were slaves then and we are slaves now; just this time it seems irreversible, right? Or are blacks in a much better position? Have we gained strides in America? This episode, we discuss the effects of slavery on Black Americans today, if any.

The Slave Dwelling Project with Joseph McGill

    in History

Join Joseph McGill for a discussion on site in a slave cabin at the Hopsewee Plantation in Georgetown County, South Carolina.

Since May 2010, Joseph McGill has spent a night in over 50 extant slave dwellings in the states of Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia, all in an attempt to bring much needed attention to these often neglected structures.  Known as the Slave Dwelling Project, it has been successful in highlighting the stewards of properties that are doing all that is necessary to preserve, interpret, maintain and sustain these structures.  The project has also identified many structures that are in desperate need of restoration.  What started as a personal quest has now evolved into a not-for-profit organization.  The project’s popularity does not allow McGill to sleep in these places alone anymore.  On Thursday, May 29, 2014, McGill spent the night in a slave cabin at Hopsewee Plantation in Georgetown County, SC, and was joined by a high school group from Milwaukee, WI and their chaperons.  The Slave Dwelling Project's first Conference will be held in Savannah, GA, September 18 – 20, 2014.

YOUR ARE A SLAVE TO SIN (YOUR ENVIRONMENT)

    in Religion

"SLAVES TO SIN" / THE POWER OF ENVIRONMENT

    SIN IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HARZARD

They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, 'You will become free '?" 34Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35"The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.… John 8:33-35

“When we walk in a library, we go quiet. When we go to a club, we start or at least feel like dancing. Dancing in a library or reading a book in a disco simply doesn’t feel right, so we don’t do it. Many of us are trying to be creative while working in a office cubicle. Some of us are trying to heavenly while living in hell, and we wonder why we keep getting distracted or doing a poor job.”
