Glenn Atkinson is the Poster Boy of trying to legally obtain citizenship in the United States. Legally entering the USA from Canada in 2006, he has been arrested, harassed and intimidated, including being jailed for 90 days as an illegal immigrant. His story is one of how broken our immigration system is and how skewed to favor illegal aliens over legal immigrannts.

Andre Pitre is definitely a triple threat! Singer, Actor, Producer. He just completed a stage play with Tyler Perry called “I Don’t Want To Do Wrong.” He is also starring in the BET premiere movie called “Heaven Aint Hard to Find.” Andre also toured with David E. Talbert’s hit stage play “Love In The Nick in Tyme,” starring along side Morris Chestnut and Ellia English of the Jamie Foxx Show.
Last year, Andre was nominated as the NAACP Image Awards best male lead in a theatrical play for his dynamic performance in Michael Ajakwe, Jr’s hit musical “Body Language.” To date, he has make appearances on Houston’s Benson and Hedges tour with Phil Perry, Jeffrey Osborne and Morris Day and Time. He’s also performed with Frankie Beverly and Maze. He performed in many of Hollywood finest clubs as well as performing in Houston, Texas, Canada, just to name a few. He is a partner of Indigo at Midtown in Houston, Tx. He has opened for Eric Benet, Chante Moore, Lenny Williams, David Hollister and The Zapp Band. Andre has also been featured in The Essence Magazine as Single Man of the Month!
Marla Gibbs, the actress who played Florence the maid on the TV sitcom "The Jeffersons." and starred on "227," has given a little back to the old neighborhood by opening Marla's Memory Lane (which is also known as Marla's Jazz Supper Club).
It's exactly what the name suggests, offering authentic old-time Jazz, Standards, and Big Band in a relaxed dining environment.
She opened the club in 1981 (although it's been around for over 60 years in one form or another.) Marla has managed to keep the place going despite financial difficulties, but since 1994, it has been open and closed sporatically. So you'll probably want to call ahead to be sure that something is scheduled. As of April 1999, though, Marla's offered a Jazz Champagne Brunch with live entertainment every Sunday ($17)
Over the years, the club has been a showcase for many up & coming African-American jazz artists. Some of the legends of jazz have played there over the last decade, including Big Joe Turner, Jimmy Witherspoon, Pee Wee Crayton and Albert Collings. In early May of 1995, the club hosted a two-day birthday bash for Marla (replete with live jazz), which was open to the public. It may become an annual tradition. (Her birthday is May 14, by the way...)
The place has a bar and showroom in the front room, and a dining room in the back with celebrity photos.
The only drawbacks are the club's unusual hours (it's open Sunday from 11 AM to 4 PM) and its location in South-Central Los Angeles. (Exercise reasonable caution.)

My life is like a walking, talking sitcom from I Love Lucy, but I love it, although people do tend to keep their distance from me! Writing has always been my dream, with reading my favorite hobby. I try to include a little bit of my life in everything I write, so when you read my books, keep your eyes wide open - I'm in there somewhere! Happy reading!
