Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes thriller novelist Polly Iyer to the studio. Polly originally was a freelance illustrator for Pucci and Valentino but as times changed, she realized that what she really wanted to do was write books. After her children were grown, she wrote two books under a pen name but now writes under her own. She has just published her 7th novel and is a member of Sisters in Crime, South Carolina chapter. I'm anxious to discuss Polly's take on self-publishing, where her creativity springs from and to learn about the great fashion houses for whom she once worked. Call to join us 347-884-8266. Sturgis Nikides plays the blues but does it with a flavor of rock and roll, from its origins in delta blues to its far dark alternative edge. Together with the vocals of his partner in life and crime, Mandy Lemons, their music has found its home. Together they are Low Society and I will sit and chat with them about their journey as we listen to You Can't Keep A Good Woman Down, which dropped last week.
The band Hurricane Ruth consists of Hurricane Ruth LeMaster on vocals, Dave Lumsden on guitar, Gary Davis on bass and Jim Engle on drums. They originate from central/southern Illinois, packing venues throughout the region. Critics and fans hail their shows as powerful, raw, emotional and dynamic. Their new album, Born On The River, consists of 11 originals that prove their reputation as tthe Ultimate Blues Rock Experience. We'll talk about their road to this point and how they found each other in the world of music.
Then I am thrilled to have TWO COUCH KID NEW MUSIC SEGMENTS on the show.
First, Ms Rory Block returns with her latest gem, Hard Luck Child - A Tribute To Skip James, a full week before it releases! Rory and I will talk about what she has been doing since her last visit on June 17th of last year and explore her new album, the fifith in her Mentor Series.
Then Grady Champion returns to The Couch to talk about his new album, Bootleg Whiskey which dropped last month. Grady originally took a Seat On The Couch way back in January of 2012, and I am excited to have him return with the new album. We'll explore what he has been up to and reask a question we asked in his first interview, "If you had not won the IBC, would your career be the same?" to see if his answer is the same.
"Musicians You Should Know"
Tonight we will hear from the both sides of the Curfew Ordinance , the business men have their issues with the ordinance in regards to their businesses and the community has their issues with the businesses and the ordinance. Is the list of hotspots complete? According to the latest news reports I don't think so, some areas have been left off. Can anything be done to remove a business off the list? What is the association prepared to do to help resolve the crime and violence that plaques these hotspot areas where their business is located.
You may have heard them called jezebels, mistresses, trollops, tramps, girlfriend #2, birds, rats, and side chicks. For as long as there have been unstable monogamous relationships there have been side chicks. Normally these women and in some cases men of ill-repute have been content playing their position and laying in the cut. With the glamorization of the side chick culture by shows like Love and Hip. As well as celebrity side chicks turned wives such as Gabrielle Union, Alicia Keys, and Angelina Jolie just to name a few. It makes one wonder when did it become cool for young sisters to aspire to be number #2 and in some case #3,4, or even 5. One also questions why is this derogatory sub cultural practice now being closely associated with women of African American descent?
Episode two of the new season of The Walking Dead has survivors back on the road. We talk about the episode.
The Geeks complaint about the quality of NFL Football games.
We talked about students who assult teachers and why this is becoming more common.
There were a number of conversation in the after show... just passed the 60 min mark.
How you enjoy the show.
.Sheikh Ali Suleiman Ali’s Endorsing Comments Regarding:
The Language of Revelation: Classical Arabic Language Instruction and Exercises with Qur’aan Commentary For Beginners & Non-Beginner’s By Siddeeq Jihad.
I have read this detailed, scholarly work of our brother, Siddeeq Jihad. The book is basically written and structured to help anyone who is interested in learning Classical Arabic. The book is highly instructive and well organized.
No doubt, the author Siddeeq Jihad has a great love for Lughatut-tanzeel, the language of revelation. He has dedicated many years studying and teaching Qur’aanic Arabic.
Allah has enabled him to share the knowledge He has blessed him with. Siddeeq has had a long jihad (exertion of diligent effort/time) in learning Qur’aanic Arabic.
The book is extremely useful! It is an excellent guide for beginners and non-beginners and whoever is interested in learning Lughatut-Tanzeel: The Language of Revelation. This work equips and empowers its readers with a strong foundation to understand Qur’aanic Arabic. It can indeed lead students, male and female toward Arabic proficiency. I strongly recommend the book for brothers and sisters who are interested in learning Qur’aanic Arabic as well as Modern Standard Arabic.
