SWAG Radio Presents: Elijah Forman and Reds Johnson

    in Books

Elijah believes that although he never went to prison or hasn't experienced certain things dealing with street life that he is just as important to Urban Fiction and African American Literature as whole as the people who have. He knows what its like to be homeless and not have a dollar to his name. He knows what it's like to have nearly everyone close to you turn their backs on you. He knows what its like to lose one of the most important people in a person's life (His Mother) and have to fend for self and find his own way. And he believes that he brings some of that to life in his work. His titles have strong messages in them and his mission is to have you wanting more. Elijah works hard on his craft and works hard to make sure the growth is shown and seen in every release. There will much more to come in the horizons for this young talent.

Reds Johnson is a twenty-one year old author from New Jersey. She is currently signed to Lock Down Publications. To be such a young woman, the stories that she wrote hit so close to home for many. After being homeless and watching her mother struggle for many years, Reds knew that it was time to strive harder. Her passion seeped through her pores so she knew that it was only a matter of time before someone gave her a chance. Not only does she write , but she's looking to be an inspirational/motivational speaker for teenagers. Being a victim of rape, and being bullied when she was younger and as she entered her adult years; Reds knows that she could be an inspiration to some. One of her main goals is to provide for her family and make sure her nieces and nephews have something to look forward to in the future.

Wanda's Picks Radio Show: 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina Special Part 2

    in Art

This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forbearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay!

We continue with our Katrina Update, this time we look at Mississippi in the second hour.

We open with a conversation with Harriette Davis, RN, Organizer, All of Us or None, a Program of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, prisonerswithchildren.org

Secondly, we speak to Antoine Hunter, choreographer, director, Urban Jazz Dance Company, about the 3rd Annual Bay Area Deaf Dance Festival, August 28-30, 2015 at ODC Theatre, 3153 17th Street, San Francisco, (415) 863-9834.

tsuNomination with Danielle Paccione and Bill Bachman - August 25,2015

    in Paranormal

LIVE tonight on tsuNomination your hosts Danielle Paccione and Bill Bachman bring you on a haunted tour of the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells, TX!

The grand Baker Hotel is located on the corner of a one-way westbound street, East Hubbard Street, and NE 1st Street. You can't miss The Baker Hotel building, as it towers above everything else in all its glory. Mineral Wells is just west of Fort Worth.

This towering, classic, stone brick building, decorated with lovely carvings, is 14 stories high, and was built to last in 1929, by visionary hotel developer, T.B. Baker. Baker came up with the idea of building a massive hotel near a mineral spring, at the cost of $1,250,000.00, which was quite a chunk of change for the time. Known as the Grand Old Lady, her building design was influenced by the Art Deco style, and built by the gifted structural engineer Wyatt Hendrick, modeled after Hendrick's other resort hotel, the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs, Arkansas. There were three different staircases: One for the well-to-do guests, one for their servants and yet another staircase for those who didn't want to be seen.

Just because The Baker Hotel is closed to the living, doesn't mean it is empty of activity. It is reported that there are at least 49 spirits who make The Baker Hotel their home. The Baker Hotel was known to be haunted, long before it closed its doors.
