    Feminism and the Black Family

    in Current Events

America has always had a problem with revisionist history, from the ever-interesting debate on the reason for the Civil War to the recurrent fiction of a post-racial America. So it doesn’t surprise me that Black folk engage in a similar rampant fallacy about our own community. Let’s talk about the Black Family™, shall we?

I don’t think anyone would deny that Black families are a sore topic, especially with the “72% Black single mother” statistic having floated around over the past few years. We lament and theorize about what “killed” the Black Family™ and caused so many broken homes. And when the dust settles, I see so many reach for a comfortable culprit: Black women. We’re an easy target.

Soul Inspiration with Host Christine "Key of C" and Guest Leslie DiNicola

    in Music

Note:  This show will air live at 7 pm - 8 pm CST and 8 pm - 9 pm EST.

Welcome to the Soul Inspirations Radio Show with your Host Christine, In the Key of C, and tonight's special guest Leslie DiNicola.

Nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Leslie DiNicola has a rare gift for the sonic snapshot—through the poetic accessibility of her writing style she captures personal moments with a universal perspective.

“I want to share my experiences in song so that others can see their lives mirrored and pass through the door of whatever is troubling them or holding them back,” the NYC-based artist explains. Each of Leslie’s releases is a photo journal, a collection of “in the moment,” unposed music portraits that reveal the core of herself and her artistry. Her latest single, the EP Boy + Girl, is her most well composed and elegantly revealing body of work.

LESLIE HAS BEEN FREQUENTLY DESCRIBED AS
“COMBINING THE GRITTINESS OF JANIS JOPLIN WITH THE VULNERABILITY OF ALISON KRAUSS.”

Interview with Rising Indie Artist Madisyn Elise hosted by Qween$Ching

    in Indie Music

15 year old Atlanta native, Madisyn Elise, is blazing her own path to stardom. A talented artist with entrepreneurial vision, Madisyn is a gifted songwriter, plays multiple instruments and co-owns an independent music entertainment company calledMEK7 Entertainment. Madisyn’s trademark sound is a bold mix of pop, rock and R&B that channels her youthful energy, and flavorful lyrics that reflect a maturity far beyond her years. Case in point is her debut hit single, “Crazy, Crazy,” a powerful anti-bullying anthem she wrote when she was 12 years old after being harassed by peers at school. “This one experience kind of tipped me over,” said Madisyn. “I was just really tired and sad and depressed, and I wrote that song because of everything that I had been through.”   In January 2014, CNN and several national and international news stations ran a story about Madisyn Elise and her song, “Crazy, Crazy”. Thereafter, in March 2014, Madisyn’s story was also aired on WSB-TV channel 2 Atlanta’s television special program called, “Being Bullied”. Madisyn was interviewed during the program and she shared her bullying experience with the audience.

Madisyn Elise has been writing and producing music since she was 10 years old. She released her debut EP entitled, PG-13 in May 2015, which features the blockbuster hits, "Crazy, Crazy", and "Sky High". PG-13 is a fusion of powerful and emotional lyrics, energetic beats, and catchy hooks. The songs are edgy, thought provoking, yet. relatable. In October 2015, Madisyn Elise released "Miles Away", which features the popular rap duo group, Charlie Boy Gang. I

Are Black Men and Women at War?

    in Self Help

    Do black women prefer thugs?

Are black women rejecting perfectly good men for superficial reasons?

Why are black women increasingly SWIRLING?

Do black men have legitimate complaints that are being ignored?

What will it take to turn this ship around?

Is there a war going on between black men and black women? Or is it just happening on YouTube, where I spend a bit too much time? If YouTube is any indication of the "real world" then black men have a bitter disdain and hatred for black women that's so virulent that it boggles the mind. Some black women, perhaps in response to these "attacks," are choosing to abandon black men altogether. Some choose to forgo relationships altogether, while other not only choose to date and marry white men, but are touting the "virtues" of white men all over YouTube.

Well, She Struts Radio will tackle these questions and others on Thursday, May 5, 2016, 6:30pm ET.

    My guests/cohosts are:

Damon Moulden is a self described "everyman's man." He's become the go-to person for armchair relationship advice for men and women, single and married. Damon has been in a happy relationship for 12 years with Dana.

Karen Simon, a 40 something year old African American woman, has 10 yrs. in the banking industry. She takes pride in her faith, character, love for others and living out her god giving gift. She's a wise woman, who has had her fair share of relationship and believes that there's someone for everyone.
