I'm so happy to welcome back Simon Majumdar, a favorite on Art of Living. We haven't seen him since January of last year, and it's been far too long.
No stranger to Food Network, Simon is a regular judge on Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef America and The Next Iron Chef, although he didn't start out in the entertainment industry. When he was 40 years old, he quit his job as a book publisher and began a new mission: "Go Everywhere, Eat Everything." Today he's traveling the country doing research for his next television and book project — Fed, White and Blue — which will celebrate America's vast and diverse culinary landscape.
Simon Majumdar returns to Art of Living to talk about his busier-than-ever career, which now includes being a judge on the returning series, "Extreme Chef," premiering Thursday, August 16th at 10pm/9c on Food Network, plus upcoming stints on "Iron Chef," "The Next Iron Chef." and "Undercover Critics." Simon is the author of the "Eat My Globe" and "Eating For Britain." http://www.simonmajumdar.com/ From the new Cooking Channel show, premiering Friday, August 17th, world traveler and food enthusiast, Eden Grinshpan, takes viewers on a weeklyculinary adventure through the most unexpected U.S. cities serving up authentic global cuisine. Over the course of eight episodes, Eden visits a different city each week to discover original recipes and the incredible stories behind them. Whether she's at a Kenyan restaurant for lunch in Baltimore or enjoying a traditional Burmese meal in Honolulu, Eden brings her passion for people and adventure everywhere she goes. With a heritage that includes his great-grandfather and grandfather owning bars and restaurants in San Francisco and three uncles who currently own seven restaurants between them, Chef Jensen Cummings was born to be a chef. As the Executive Chef at "Row 14 Bistro & Wine Bar" in Denver, Chef Cummings has been an advocate in bridging the gap between local product and international cuisine. He works the th Colorado Department of Agriculture and Colorado Proud to build relationships, logistics and transportation between farmers and restaurants. http://www.row14denver.com/
Simon Majumdar realized, at the age of 40, that there had to be more to life than the daily 9 to 5 grind he had lived the last twenty years of his life. His genuine mid-life crisis included the death of his mother, and stressful changes at work that caused him to quit his job and set out to fulfill his life's ambition: to go everywhere, eat everything. This adventure cost Simon most of his life savings, took him to 31 countries in a little over a year, and resulted in his critically-acclaimed book, "Eat My Globe." He also authored, "Eating For Britain," in 2010, is a contributor to the UK's "The Guardian," "The Independent," and "The Daily Mail;" also, "The Daily Beast," "Wexas Traveller Magazine," and www.AskMen.com. In 2008, Simon was voted by "The London Evening Standard" as one of the "1000 Most Influential People in London,: and in 2009, "GQ Magazine" chose his "Dos Hermanos" as one of the "100 Best Things In The World," calling it "Michelin-starred food blogging." Last year, "Esquire Magazine (UK)," called Simon and his brother's blog, "Dos Hermanos," the #1 UK blog that restaurants fear, and noted that it's "still one of the most widely-read, and best," and the UK Press Gazette voted Simon #20 on the "Top 50 Food and Drink Journalists." On television, Simon can be seen as a recurring guest judge on Food Network's "Iron Chef America," and has been seen on Food Network's "Next Iron Chef," -Seasons 3 & 4), "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," and as a recurring guest judge on "Extreme Chef." website: http://www.simonmajumdar.co.uk
SIMON MAJUMDAR returns to the show to talk about his new project, "Fed, White and Blue," where he will be traveling all over the United States learning what it is to "be an American," since he is planning on becoming a citizen as soon as possible. He will, of course, be doing this through his love of authentic food experiences. The author of "Eat My Globe" is inviting people across America to participate in helping him to experience America through unique not-to-be-missed food, volunteering to get his hands dirty from helping food truck owners in their kitchens, to harvesting crops, to heading out into rough waters with fishermen, and more. See details at: http://www.simonmajumdar.com/musings/fed-white-blue/ Simon is a popular contributor on Food Network's Iron Chef America, The Next Iron Chef, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, and Extreme Chef, as a judge. ANDREA SCHRODER (rescheduled from 12/9) returns to the show to talk about her new line of candles, "Love Lights," and update us on her and husband Ricky's busy careers producing, directing and acting in film and television. Andrea built her first home at 18 and by the time she had 4 growing children, she had finished more than 15 homes, plus several commercial projects built, renovated, and furnished. She was on Bravo TV's "Top Design" season 1. http://andreaschroder.com/ Our own favorite "Wine Curmudgeon," JEFF SIEGEL returns to the show with his "Ten Dollar Hall of Fame,"- not to be missed for those of us who love the grape, but not the high prices. http://www.winecurmudgeon.com/
Host Derek Simon discusses the announced closing of Suffolk Downs after 79 years of hosting thoroughbred racing, relating it to the closing of Longacres Park in 1992.
In the I Need to Know segment, Derek explains how handicapping dogma keeps many players in the pari-mutuel dog house. And, lastly, in the Handicapping segment, he offers a potential play from Suffolk Downs (it seemed appropriate) and looks ahead to this weekend’s big races at Parx.

A believer in reincarnation, he spent several years training with the late Dr Roger Woolger founder of Deep Memory Process as well as studying astrology. His website soulvision.co.uk has been chosen several times as one of the most interesting blogs on the net. This year he set up the Centre for Alternative Education, an online resource which aims to connect people with the unity behind the whole and in the spring walked The Camino with his middle child Meg, aged 20. He is the father of Noah, 16, and Jess, 24. Are we any closer to finding out the truth behind Benghazi? I have my doubts. Hillary Clinton's book plummets in sales on week two. Thad Cochran finds support in strange places. The GOP doesn't much care for the ruckus the Tea Party are causing, and apparebtly neither do minority Democratic voters in Mississippi.Shame really, a Tea Party loudmouth might have turned Mississippi blue. Is the immigration reform debate dead?
