How do you explain this? A man attempts to commit suicide, but his dead father rushes back to prevent it? A woman looks into her young daughter’s room and finds that the child’s imaginary friend is real? A bind woman after having a near death experience, clearly sees 2 ghosts standing at the foot of her bed?
Award-winning science writer and journalist, Louisa Oakley Green has written a book called “Sightseeing in the Undiscovered Country”. This book takes you on a tour through the mystical territories of the human experience—from premonitions and near-death adventures to contact with the dead. The book also highlights several recent scientific studies into consciousness, near-death experiences, reincarnation, and more. Louisa will be joining us to tell us about the things that science cannot explain…or can it?

Mary Ellen Danuser book, Freedom to Choose, sheds light as to why some people choose to date and marry outside their race. She believes that issues on interracial relationships are not fairly understood in today's society, partly attributed to the lack of public awareness on the subject. In turn it is the result of scarcely documented literature deeply addressing the case from the rare personal viewpoint. With this in mind, she wrote Freedom to Choose - Is Skin Color Really an Issue?” a compilation of true stories from interracially married couples all over the US, including the author’s real-life experiences.
The book mainly tells the story of Mary Ellen and her spouse, John Dakota, a retired Marine officer and commercial pilot, interpolated with the narratives of the couples she has interviewed. It offers a rare look into the lives of these couples, revealing insights as to the rationales why some people choose their mates outside their race - a portrait of motive, intent, and personal choice. The real names of the pairs are withheld but the experiences shared are authentic and real.
Mary Ellen, who served in the US Army as a medical specialist and an Army recruiter, is a retired insurance professional. With her husband she enjoys traveling, attending car races, dining out, outdoor concerts, reading, walking, sightseeing, and just hanging out with each other. Mary Ellen, born in Springfield, Illinois, grew up in Vandalia, Missouri. Because her passion since her retirement is writing non-fiction books, she is working on her second non-fiction book.

Desoto Magazines article on the Buffalo National River in Arkansas Ozarks.
The end of 2014 brought a legal victory so significant for the Buffalo National River watershed in Arkansas that the nonprofit environmental law organization Earthjustice called it “a rare win against industrial agriculture and federal malfeasance.”
Congress established the Buffalo National River in 1972 as America’s first national river. Over a million people visit this national park each year, spending over $46 million annually in local communities. Activities at the park include canoeing, fishing, swimming, caving, camping, hiking, hunting, and sightseeing.
Last month, U.S. District Judge D. Price Marshall found two federal agencies liable for illegally guaranteeing portions of approximately $3.6 million in loans applied for by C&H Hog Farms, a 6,500-animal factory farm that began operating on a tributary of the river in 2013. The two federal agencies—the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Farm Service Agency (FSA)—guaranteed these loans despite failing to conduct adequate environmental reviews.
In 2010, John Marshall needed a change. He was feeling disconnected from his wife and his two teenage kids were lost in cyberspace. In an effort to pull his family back together, John proposed they take a six month trip around the world. Not the sightseeing-hotel-restaurant kind of trip, but a volunteer adventure, working with service organizations in all kinds of interesting projects.
And so, they spent time at an animal sanctuary in the rainforest of Costa Rica, labored on organic farms in New Zealand, taught English in rural Thailand, fell in love with orphans in India, and worked alongside a Buddhist monk high in the Himalayas.
John documents the highs and lows of this family vacation unlike any other in WIDE-OPEN WORLD (Ballantine Books; On Sale 2/10/15)
John Marshall is a nine-time Emmy Award–winning writer, producer, and director. In addition to his work behind the camera, Marshall has been a familiar face on Maine television for more than ten years, writing and hosting numerous weekly TV shows. Wide-Open World is his first book.

So many of us go through life not listening to our inner voice. We do the things we are “supposed to do” and follow a pre-determined path. Somewhere along the way we are taught to “play it safe” and not to make rash decisions. Some become very successful, even wealthy. But some people would trade the money and success for feeling truly alive.
