Cowboys 90 Minute Monday: Dynasty, Dez (AGAIN), QBR and Jerrah World

    in Football

Are the dallas Cowboys building a dynasty like the had in the 1990's? They sure seem to have all the tools in the place. QB, RB (stil la question mark), OL, re-emerging D, great coaching, Will Tony be part of the next "America's Team"? Or will he finish his NFL career as the only Cowboys QB to be a 10 year plus starter and never win a ring? Dustin and I discuss.

Dez and his agent met with Cowboy's executives for the first time in months last week, which is a good sign right? ESPN's Adam Caplan reports that it is guranteed money still keeping the two apart. However, Dez has been making apperances at charioty events with teammates.......is this hold out smoke in mirrors?

Is QBR really a big deal? If you follow football it is. Tony Romo led the league by a landslide last season, leading a list that had Rodgers, Brees and Brady on it. What does QBR mean and why is it such and underrated stat?

Is AT&T stadium really a distraction? The elaborate palace known as "Jerry's World" has everything you can think of---100,000 seats, cat walks, a 60-yard video screen, giant glass windows.......but is it overkill? The Cowboys were 8-0 last season and only 4-4 and home, and have been better on the road ever since the stadium has been built.

The Importance of Fathers in Their Children's Lives

    in Parents

Dr. Annie Abram and Armin Brott, a fathering expert and the author of many books about fathers will discuss the importance of fathers in their children's lives. Although, there continues to be a stigma associated with "care-giving" dads, through out last two decades the role of the father has been increasingly recognized as just as important as that of the mother in determining the well being of children in every aspect of their development. For example, the involvement of a father in a girl's life is instrumental in how she thinks about herself as a woman, a  worker,
and increases her confidence on every level. Of course, this is true for boys as well, largely through gender identification.

A former Marine, Armin Brott has devoted the last 20 years to providing men with the tools, support, and knowledge to help them become the fathers they want to be——and their families need them to be. His eight critically acclaimed books for fathers have sold well over a million copies. Titles include The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-to-Be and The New Father: A Dad’s Guide to the First Year. He has written on fatherhood for hundreds of newspapers and magazines and is a frequent guest on such television programs as the Today Show. He also writes a nationally syndicated newspaper column (Ask Mr. Dad), and hosts a syndicated radio show (Positive Parenting). He lives with his family in Oakland, California.

Toronto Raptors should trade for David Lee

    in Basketball

The Toronto Raptors are flush with salary cap space. Yes, they need to re-sign Sixth Man award winner Lou Williams, and they'll likely need to give him a significant raise after what he gave them.

But what about getting unrestricted free agents to come to Toronto? It has never been an easy thing to do (last summer's Kyle Lowry re-signing notwithstanding), and Masai Ujiri is going up against some awfully heavy hitters when it comes to going after the likes of LaMarcus Aldridge and his ilk.

If he strikes out on all of the big names, what might Plan B be?

Here's my suggestion: Go get David Lee, who the Golden State Warriors are trying to trade. He is a former All-Star, he is the consummate professional, and he can score in the low block better than Amir Johnson, Chuck Hayes, Patrick Patterson, James Johnson or any of the other power forwards Toronto used last season.

The Warriors have already told Lee they will attempt to move him, and Golden State knows it will not get equal value in return. What is important to the Warriors is ridding themselves of Lee's salary to keep themselves out of luxury tax territory. A future second-round pick might be all it takes to get it done, and adding Lee would give the Raptors a one-year rental on a solid player while keeping intact their cap space for the bonanza summer of 2016.

I tossed that idea at Toronto radio listeners this morning on Sportsnet 590-The Fan, and I also explained the strange free agent status of Atlanta's Paul Millsap -- and how that could be an option, too.

Johnny Strozier Keeping It Real (reentry show) June 28, 2015

    in Politics Progressive

    Saturdays 9pmEST (Sundays sometimes)
Johnny Strozier was incarcerated in Georgia prisons for 46 years (from 1968 to 2013), with roughly 15 of them served in solitary confinement. He was initially arrested at age 6, when he and friends burglarized an Atlanta warehouse to steal cigarettes for family members and candy. He was imprisoned at age 10. He was transferred to an adult facility, then his sentence was lengthened by 90 years after cutting a prison guard. Strozier's warden told him he would never exit prison alive because he escaped several times and was involved in gang activity, but Strozier changed. He became a Christian in the 1980s. Strozier got active in church and also gained his high school diploma while still incarcerated. He also became a certified cook and brick mason. Since prison release, Strozier works, counsels youths, completed reentry programs, and attends church twice or more times weekly. Strozier's last cellmate in Macon Prison was Atlanta child killer Wayne Williams. Strozier advocates personal responsibility.

Strozier shares information about reentry opportunities, the importance of avoiding behavior that leads to incarceration, and he brought together other people and groups who share valuable information to improve lives of former inmates and at-risk youths. For speaking engagments in Georgia, please call (678)516-4993
