WBA Welterweight World Champion Keith "One Time" Thurman will defend his title against former champ "Showtime" Shawn Porter in a blockbuster matchup of two of the world's best 147-pound fighters on Saturday, March 12 on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS.
The welterweight showdown will air live on CBS at 8:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT from Mohegan Sun Casino Resortin Connecticut. The event, promoted by DiBella Entertainment, is produced by SHOWTIME Sports® for the CBS Television Network, both divisions of the CBS Corporation. The last primetime boxing event on CBS was Muhammad Ali-Leon Spinks on Feb. 15, 1978.
Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs), of Clearwater, Fla., and Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs), of Las Vegas by way of Akron, Ohio, are both coming off superb 2015 campaigns that solidified the fresh faces among the elite of arguably boxing's most exciting division. With perennial pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather now retired, Thurman and Porter are hungry to stake their claim as the future of boxing.

Without question Adrien Broner vs Shawn Porter, on paper, is one of the more even match ups Premier Boxing Champions has delivered. Even if it's not good, we're basically being saturated with televised boxing cards. Enough that sub-par match ups can be ignored? No, but close. Apart from the #PBConNBC show, Roc Nation Sports makes its BET network debut with Andre Ward vs Paul Smith, on FoxSports, David Lemieux faces Hassan N'Dam, and on a rare Sunday show, CBS airs Antonio DeMarco vs Rances Barthelemy. That's without even going into the recapping we need to do... Erislandy Lara vs Delvin Rodriguez from Spike, Nicholas Walters vs Miguel Harriaga on HBO, Deontay Wilder barely surviving Eric Molina on Showtime. There's a ton. As usual, it's James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Patrick Connor of The Fight City bringing it all. Thanks for tuning in!
All sorts of goodies for the first show. We'll discuss a couple speakers who made early stop in February to Town Hall Seattle.
First will be a clip from author of "Bernie," Ted Rall who comments on Sen. Sanders' ability to pull back the reigns on the military industrial complex.
Second is a clip from Author of "When Money Talks," Derek Cressman, about whether or not Hillary Clinton supporters are OK with the status quo or just pessamistic in regards to what can actually get done
Porter-Broner was one of the biggest "pick 'em" fights of the year and we discuss the fight, scores, and the aftermath of this incredible fight, along with the coverage TBV provided live from Vegas. We will look at the winner and loser of this fight from every angle: what did they do to deserve outcome, what they could've done differently, and what is ultimately next for both fighters.
In one of the biggest and most action-packed weekends in boxing this year, TBV will discuss the rest of the weekend's cards. Cards such as "Fight of the Year" candidate in Lemieux-N'Dam. Both fighters went to war. N'Dam was knocked down 4 times in the fight, but he was able to stay focused and get himself back into the fight, and the scorecards. Lemieux proved he is a real contender with rare power, but is he the man to truly test Golovkin?
Not to be left out, Andre Ward returned to action after a 19-month layoff. Ward showed ring rust was never a big factor in his return and he defeated Paul Smith in style.
We also plan to discuss the Sunday PBC card on CBS.
Showtime Steve Upsher joins Team LeftJab Boxing Radio to discuss his latest win over Alejandro Rodriguez to get him back on the winning track and also to give us an update on the gym that he opened along with Rod Salka called The Fight Co.Upsher looks back at Algieri vs Khan and gives his opinion on the fight and if the win for Khan helps him get a Floyd Mayweather fight. We look at upcoming fights with Steve such as Daniel Geal vs Miguel Cotto,Adrien Broner vs Shawn Porter and Timothy Bradley vs Jesse Vargas and much more.
This weekend, PBC will be live in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MGM Grand for the battle of Ohio as Shawn “Showtime” Porter (25-1-1 with 16 KOs) will square off against Adrien “The Problem” Broner (30-1 with 22 KOs). The fight will take place with a 144 pound catchweight, and it also has a rehydration clause that will prevent the fighters from getting above 154 pounds. It honestly maybe one of the few 50-50 type fights boxing fans will see for the rest of the year.
The 27-year-old Shawn Porter was skyrocketing through the Welterweight rankings. The Akron, Ohio native was coming off good wins against Julio Diaz, Devon Alexander, and then the demolishment of Paulie Malignaggi and just as he was looking to make the step towards the top 3-5 of the division, he was shocked and beaten up by top UK fighter Kell Brook. Losing to Kell Brook, who might be the 3rd best Welterweight in the world, is not a bad thing, but with the run that Porter was on, and with that fight being on US soil, it’s a loss that will always be highlighted on Porter’s record, a fight that winning this weekend can cancel out.
Adrien Broner is a 25-year-old brash, cocky, but talented fighter out of Cincinnati. He was another fighter that was flying pound for pounds lists for everyone. He was a dominant lightweight champion, skipped the 140 pound division to the welterweight to win a title there, but just like Porter, just as it seemed as he was on a straight line to the top, he was caught and sent back into reality by Marcos Maidana. Since then Broner has reeled off three more wins in a row, including an impressive fight against Emmanuel Taylor in front a raucous hometown. On today's show we will break down and debate Porter vs Brook. Unbeaten IBF Welterweight World Champion Shawn “Showtime” Porter, undefeated contender Kell Brook and seven other boxers who will compete on this Saturday’s stacked Golden Boy Promotions’ fight card at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.,
Kell Brook 32(22)-0 has been assuring his UK faithful that it’s “his time” for a while now. Our patience has inevitably thinned a little within this waiting period. Alongside evidence tipping toward proof, teasing the potential within that fans have been promised, were also levels of competition not befitting of a man demonstrating his arsenal of skills.
The injuries smudging the potential meeting with Alexander, setbacks both men were guilty of introducing, genuine or otherwise. What seemed like an overabundance of filler bouts and title eliminators, alongside questions surrounding Brooks love for the sport. All the above had us quietly musing to ourselves, (lest we were accused of insidious unpatriotic tendencies) if the said proclaimed “time” Kell continuously warned opponents of, would ever come around. We will with out a shadow of a doubt be taking live calls on air from you the voice of the people. There's an ebb and flow to the type of match ups we get in boxing. The sport may not be seasonal, as the NFL, NBA, MLB, and so forth are, but boxing comes and goes -- like most things. 2013 was mostly excellet, and so far 2014 has been lame. This past week wasn't a particularly strong one either, with Kell Brook taking an often-tedious decision over Shawn Porter, Anthony Dirrell tumbling about to a win over Sakio Bika, and Omar Figueroa making things somewhat worthwhile with an emphatic stoppage of Daniel Estrada on Showtime. This week on TQBR Radio, Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules will talk about all of that stuff, plus the Showtime Extreme undercard and what Jorge Linares and Deontay Wilder were doing on there, Austin Trout's return, and other boxing news. Thanks for tuning in!

Floyd Mayweather invented that whole #TBE hashtag, but does he have exclusive rights on it? For instance, can we borrow it here, while specifically intending to not use it to describe this past weekend's Showtime card? We're having our secretaries look into it. This week on TQBR Radio, Bad Left Hook's James Foley and Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules recap the miserable eyesore/earsore/soulsore that was headlined by Danny Garcia vs Rod Salka. Joining the show this week is ESPN's Brian Campbell. Oh, don't worry. There will be plenty of room to trash Lamont Peterson vs Edgar Santana and Daniel Jacobs vs Jarrod Fletcher, too, all the while working up to a preview of this weekend's Shawn Porter vs Kell Brook tripleheader on Showtime. Thanks for tuning in!
