    Dracula's Trail, Ghosthunting and Criminals

    in Travel

Do you believe in ghosts or vampires? On today’s show you’ll meet two people that do—a paranormal photographer and a writer who traveled along dracula’s trail. On a more serious note we’ll also re-introduce you to our friends and partners at the United Nations Global Initiative to fight Human Trafficking.

Jason Dowd is an award-winning photographer whose work has been exhibited throughout the world. He is also a paranormal investigator, who has debunked possible “ghost sightings” and confirmed others through his own personal experiences—some which he captured on recording.

Steven P. Unger has traveled extensively in North and South America, Western Europe, Israel, and Romania. But his life journeys are even more intriguing. He was one of a handful of white students at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, and a member of the Bear Tribe, a California commune that tried sharecropping, goat herding, and living in teepees. So it’s not surprising that this adventurer also sought to discover the truth and myths behind “Vlad the Impaler” aka, DRACULA. In his new book, IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF DRACULA: A PERSONAL JOURNEY AND TRAVEL GUIDE, Steven reveals the history of Dracula in a surprisingly scholarly fashion.

Human trafficking is a real threat and it affects people of every demographic in every country around the world. World Footprints has joined several organizations that are fighting on the frontlines against this global crime. Our awareness and intro into the world of human trafficking started with our partnership with the United Nations Global Initiative to fight Human Trafficking.

    Bells Not Bullets

    in Religion

                                      Artist against Gun Violence

Today, the forces that push for gun control seem to be heavily (though not exclusively) allied with political factions that are committed to dramatic increases in taxation on the middle class. While it would be hyperbole to compare higher taxes on the middle class to the suffering and deprivation of sharecropping or slavery, the analogy of disarming those whom you wish to economically disadvantage, has a certain worrisome validity to it.

Another point to consider is that in the American legal system, certain classifications of governmental discrimination are considered constitutionally suspect, and these "suspect classifications" (usually considered to be race and religion) come to a court hearing under a strong presumption of invalidity. The reason for these "suspect classifications" is because of the long history of governmental discrimination based on these classifications, and because these classifications often impinge on fundamental rights.

In much the same way, gun control has historically been a tool of racism, and associated with racist attitudes about black violence. Similarly, many gun control laws impinge on that most fundamental of rights: self-defense. Racism is so intimately tied to the history of gun control in America that we should regard gun control aimed at law-abiding people as a "suspect idea," and require that the courts use the same demanding standards when reviewing the constitutionality of a gun control law, that they would use with respect to a law that discriminated based on race.

Getting our Fair Share in an era of Sharecropping?

    in Self Help

This week we continue our "... and the Truth Shall Make You Free" series by presenting more living history.  On our journey back through time, we take a closer look at one of the greatest business strategy, or ponzi scheme, known to mankind:  Systems of Sharecropping!  These business practices were prevalent throughout the southern United States.  Although sharecropping has defined start and end dates, the South knew and respected few boundaries; in many instances, these practices continued well into the 1970's.
Our presenters are Rosa Lee Smith (Mom) and Abraham Jenkins (Cousin Abe), and possibly a few other mystery guests. They speak from their experiences and their hearts. Feel their pain, touch their hope, and embrace their determination to endure and succeed. Ask questions and share your stories; we are all in this together.
These historical accounts are important because they demonstrate that even without wealth, or gainful employment, we made and still can make better behavioral choices.  In sum, as we fluctuate in our various states of lack-thereof, let's not self-destruct.  Instead, we must unite, pool our resources and learn to think collectively.
This is Bones X, signing off; Check-Mate.

Reconstruction failed to alter the South's social structure or its distribution of wealth and power. "It would be best for the peace, harmony, and prosperity of the whole country that there should be an immediate restoration, an immediate bringing back of the States into their original practical relations.…,"   The Freedmen's Bureau was attacked by the Alex system leaving the vast majority of free slaves uneducated there was no land reform, slaves were forced into a sharecropping system and did not own their own farms, no independent, no equal and no success. The Black Codes and other laws restricting former slaves, though clearly unconstitutional, were not challenged in court or struck down by local military authorities, leaving African-Americans virtually unprotected and subject once again to working for whites involuntarily.
