Many of us fail to see the humor (or often the irony) in life's experiences. In this context, irony is incongruity between what actually happens and what might be expected to happen, especially when this disparity is absurd or laughable. If we take the time, we find that life is full of such moments. Now that the event is distant and the pain has subsided, thinking about such experiences can make us smile. It turns out that such reflection is a valuable practice. Medical science tells us that if we take life too seriously we will have physical and emotional problems. Tune in this week as Nancy Herold and I discus the importance of ‘lightening up’ as we pursue enlightenment. The recent passing of Robin Williams has left a void in many of our lives because of his gift of laughter. His loss is a reminder that sometimes we have to ‘carry’ the torch of laughter for ourselves. This should be a fun show!
The way you get around today is changing. By that I mean our modes of transportation are morphing in ways we never thought possible. Much of the change behind the way we travel can be credited to innovative ideas. Think about it. We are about to enter a new phase that will allow Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure capabilities to collect massive amounts of data that can be shared with all drivers, making journeys safer and better for everyone on the road. Organizations of all sizes are coming together to create safe, efficient and seamless experiences for drivers, but the question still remains: how do we accelerate this innovation to create an even better future for transportation?
Earlier this month, Xerox attended the Intelligent Transportation Systems World Congress 2014 conference in Detroit to explore the thinking on that very question.
Joining us today to talk more about their time at the show and the future of transportation are Ken Philmus, senior vice president of Xerox’s Government and Transportation Sector, and Richard Harris, solutions director for Xerox’s International Government and Transportation Sector.

Edmonton, Alberta – There’s a grief process that accompanies divorce. You’re not only grieving the loss of your relationship, but also the person you were and the hope for the life you’d planned together.
But sometimes we need something to rock our world in order to grow. According to professional life coach Sandy Miller, divorce can be a catalyst toward a revolution of self.
“In the beginning of divorce it’s devastating,” says Sandy. “You feel overwhelmed. But you can start again. You can create a new normal.”
Five years ago, Sandy went through her own transformational journey of divorce. Today, Sandy is the founder of Revolutionizing Divorce, a coaching practice dedicated to helping people understand the components of divorce and navigate their way through one of the most dramatic experiences of their lives.
“I compare it to going through a tunnel with a little headlight on your head,” says Sandy. “You can’t see much but you know you’re eventually going to get through it. I have their best interests at heart and I help them break down the process into tiny manageable steps so it’s not overwhelming to them.”
Sandy says her whole outlook on life is you either become “bitter or better.” The process of navigating your way through divorce can be broken down into three distinct phases: resolve, reclaim and rebuild.
“To resolve is to understand that no amount of work is going to save the relationship. We can’t move on to the next phase, heal or move forward until we come to that internal resolve,” explains Sandy. “To reclaim is to reclaim who you are. What are your strengths? What have you always wanted to do? To rebuild is to feel a shift within yourself to finally create the life you want to live.”

Tonight's special guest is Laurie Ann Smith from Calgary, Canada, a long time NAASCA family member who's returning to the show after more than a year. She's always a welcome addition to anything we do. Laurie Ann works with many advocates around the globe, speaking out against child abuse. She encourages others to take a stand on the issues surrounding child sexual abuse, too, emphasizing the need to break the silence. She regularly speaks on Internet radio programs, telling her own story and helping break the chains of shame and guilt so many survivors of abuse suffer with day to day. Laurie has written several books, including “One Child Abuse Survivor 2 Another: The Journey,” the true story of Laurie Ann's personal healing journey and memoirs through “talk therapy” on Internet radio, exposing the truth of growing up abused, child sexual abuse, incest, rape, sodomy, and traumatic memories. Laurie Ann shares the painful process of working through her healing journey. This is a story not only of pain, but of healing, of revelation, and of Laurie Ann's determination to claim victory over the nightmares that consumed her since childhood. Other books include her first work “A Life of Death: The Redemption” which is a memoir of growing up abused, and the tragic events that destroyed her family long before she was born, and “La Veta Juvies,” a hard look at the issues so many teens face being brought up in violent homes, and living on violent streets. Laurie Ann's mission is to continue writing and speaking publicly, to be “one more voice” to add to those voices who are making a difference.
