A healthy sex life is rarely discussed, lubricants, contraception and hygiene products... do we know if these things are really safe? Let's talk about it? What do we do about ED and hormonal dysfunction? Are men and women at younger ages experiencing it? What about Sex after Menopause? These are just a few of the issues that we'll be disussing Monday evening.
While we're on that topic, we may also discuss population control. Is there an agenda? What is it, some methods of it and what does it mean to you?
In this weeks edition of Healthy Matters: The Radio show we will get to the meat of these topics and more things that affect our every day lives.
Join myself, Dennis Jefferson and my co-hosts 'the ever knowledgeable' Verna Hair Brown and Ms Dana Pitts as we discuss "Sexual Healing" and doing it right.
Bring a friend and join us each and every Monday at 8pm cst for a new episode of Healthy Matters and start your week with "A Healthy Matter"
I did everything society said to be happy. I got the degrees: BA, a Montessori degree, and an MA. I married the “right” men who could “give me respect and boost my confidence.” First an attorney. Had one daughter. The marriage ended after seven years because of his affairs. Eight years later, my second husband was a cardiologist from Virginia. We had a bi-coastal, whirlwind coke-induced love affair for eighteen months. The marriage lasted six months. I did things I thought might help society. I sent women to London for abortions before Roe v. Wade. I was active in the peace movement to stop the Vietnam War. I started NORML (the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) with my first husband. I had the right jobs: I wrote and produced for PBS. I won numerous awards. I wrote screenplays to shine the light on inequities. None of this alleviated my pain, shame and suffering from the childhood beatings and sexual abuse that led to my self-abuse. My healing journey began with Shhhh!
I have lived in Venice Beach, CA., just steps to the sand, for eighteen years. I’m a grandmother of two loving, beautiful, half Chinese boys. I just had a portion of a short story published in a new LA literary journal, FRE&D. Currently, I’m working on my next book, “Mother NORML”. For those who wish to clean out their pain and shame please join me in my weekly webinar, Skype to Write. I have been on a spiritual journey. I have become the me I came here to be! To help you do so go to my Resources for You tab.

Tonight's special guest is Rachel Grant from San Francisco, a returning NAASCA family member, counselor and Sexual Abuse and Trauma Recovery Coach at Rachel Grant Coaching. Abused as a child by her grandfather in Oklahoma, Rachel now holds an M.A. in Counseling Psychology. She provides a compassionate and challenging approach for her clients while using coaching as opposed to therapeutic models to help survivors of childhood sexual abuse let go of the pain of abuse and finally feel normal. As Rachel says, "What you think, you create!" She brings to the table a passionate belief that her clients do not have to remain trapped or confronted daily by the thoughts or behaviors that result from abuse. For her, how we are relating to others is crucial to improving the overall quality of our lives. Her program, Beyond Surviving, has been specifically designed to change the way we think about and heal from abuse. Rachel writes, "The Beyond Surviving program is based on what I have learned through my own journey of recovery from sexual abuse, my study of neuroscience, and my training in counseling psychology. I have given much thought to the structure and content of the program so that my clients can reach the recovery goals they set in a way that is approachable and straightforward." She goes on to explain, "We use my guidebook, Beyond Surviving: The Final Stage in Recovery from Sexual Abuse as the roadmap for our work. Each month, we cover a few of the lessons from the guidebook and I bring in additional reflections and exercises for each session." "Ultimately," she points out, "you are in the driver's seat and we prioritize our work based on your needs."

This Sunday evening, Oct 4th, it is a huge honor to welcome friend/colleague Carolyn Wilson, MSW/LCSW Sexual Abuse Therapist. Let's talk to someone who has been working with victims and families for over 30 years, as she gives us a very close personal insight in how this act, which so many believe is gentle and loving, will never harm the child; let's find out exactly what she has seen in helping survivors & families learn to cope and rebuild. There are many challenges you hear me talk about all the time, write about them, speak about them, and have helped my share of persons, but Ms. Wilson is the expert we welcome to answer your concerning questions. Let me ask you - Would you make the call to report/help a child in need, especially if you believe it to be a close member of your family? What types of backlash might we expect in reporting? Is it really anonymous to make a report?
Keep in mind our shows are for entertainment purposes. While we may have experts join in we cannot & do not provide any form of professional theraputic, legal, or medical advice. It is necessary for you to connect with a Hotline or a service in your area. Please join in and invite some friends, or your teenagers. It's a great way to start a conversation about today's matters and how to help. Thank you stopping by!
