We are what we eat! How many times have we heard that? But do we really believe it? Will that delicious pound cake become part of your hips? Will that sirloin steak become part of your feet? We are on a crash course with our health in the US and so much of what ails us can be averted by making healthier food choices. Children and teens are experiencing the effects of this crash course in much the same way as adults. Dr. Imani Ma'at, the segment's regular host and Author of Healthy Haiku 3: How to Fight Childhood Obesity One Poem at a Time, will be interviewed by Guest Host Ms. Martha Dowdell.
Ms. Martha Dowdell is a health and nutrition enthusiast with more than 40 years experience in research, experimentation, and lifestyle strategy techniques that lead to achieving optimum health. Her passions are etiquette training, health and nutrition education and motivation so that people will be inspired to make healthy lifestyle choices.
The segment will focus on the growing health epidemic in our communities. Dr. Ma'at will also discuss her new book: Healthy Haiku 3: How to Fight Childhood Obesity One Poem at a Time. This book is packed with important topics about childhood and teen obesity such as: obesity as a precursor to diabetes, high blood pressure, compromised immune system, depession, and social isolation; the importance of alkalizine foods and water in our diet and the importance of enzymes. There is also a great appendix section with information such as a handy chart of akaline foods, icebreakers, role play activties and more! On sale this week only on Amazon Kindle for only $1.99!
In southern Dallas, Texas, Sunny Giovanni-- or "Gio" as she likes to be called-- was born on the fifth day of June in 1989. Born to a mother who was a teacher and a graduate from Texas A&M University you couldn't so much as watch a Disney movie if you hadn't read the book beforehand. Gio has had a very strong history with literature, diversifying from poetry (winning placements in oratorical contests), to thriller short stories as a way to vent her frustrations.
The pen was handed down to her from an older sibling as a means to focus her negative energy and anger into something different but was used as a way to alter her own situations.
As a preteen Gio witnessed how much her writing could touch someone when she left one of her prized spirals in a classroom without knowing. Two weeks after it went missing someone brought it back to her asking for more, letting the young author know that almost everyone she knew read the story, but without knowing it was her in the story she had written.
Sunny Giovanni is an advocate for gay and transgender rights, and says: "You can't help who you are and you damn sure can't help who you love. You should be true to who are rather than to conform and live the ultimate lie and live miserably until the day you die." Credited from the poem she penned "Titanium", modeled after her novel.
Gio is a mother of three children, the founder of Lucid Legends Publishing/ Photography, Kno Joke Entertainment, the host of "We Talk TOO Much Radio" on BlogTalk Radio and blogs on Tumblr under the name "KnoJokeGio". She is a friend to many and prides herself on making a smile out of an extremely horrible day. "It doesn't matter if you're having a bad day... a smile could make everything else seem so small. Crack a joke when someone is hurt and see how fast they cheer up.
TWU Radio welcomes Lyric Benson to the show! Lyric deeply experiences God as a manifestation in everyday experiences, in everything we touch, in every human being. She joins the show to discuss her book French Kissing God which displays how intimately accessible God is to Lyric! There is no place Lyric refuses to take God, that's for sure!
The daughter of actor/director/songwriter Robby Benson and actress/rock star Karla DeVito, Lyric Benson Fergusson came from a non-religious, Hollywood-influenced home. But at the age of 19, she was suddenly faced with a major family health crisis, her own unimaginable physical pain, and the loss of a dear friend in the Twin Towers collapse on 9/11. She was in such extreme emotional and physical agony, she began to pray. And that moment changed her life.
To learn more about Lyric, check out her website: frenchkissinggod.com.
