Humor is a powerful business as well as speaking tool. However, few business people how to use it. If you learn how to develop your humor and incorporate laughter and fun into your business environment you will command respect and attention, build morale, and create a more productive work environment.
“Humor has three primary impacts: cognitive, emotional and physiological,” says psychologist Steven Sultanoff, Ph.D., former president of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. He explains that workplace humor may offer some perspective on a situation, which helps people process it.
Humor requires that we develop a more playful approach and this can be advantageous in business as well as in our personal lives. Innovation and creativity requires a playful approach. People who enjoy their work are more likely to be engaged and work harder. Laughter is a great social tool that brings people together and as we all know, collaboration is essential to success.
Some speakers are reluctant to use humor in their speeches. They fear that they won't get a laugh and will feel embarrassed. Some say that they don't feel like they can be funny. We believe that anyone can learn to develop their sense of humor and use it in their speaking. It is a valuable tool that helps to relax an audience and will make them feel more comfortable with you as the speaker. Humor can also illustrate a point you are making and make your talk more memorable. It breaks down barriers and will make your audience more receptive to your ideas. When people laugh, they are able to relax and they derive more value. The entertainment factor is enough reason to develop humor in your speaking. During this show we will talk about how to use humor effectively.

Franny Armstrong is a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Her husband supports her imagination and has the patience of a saint. She’s been writing since she was a child, creating plays to act out in front of the neighborhood children. She charged them five cents admission to join her in the family garage for the play.
Since 2002, after a serious breakdown, Franny had to express herself on the computer since she couldn’t speak, everything coming out gibberish at that time. She’s slowly healed to the point that she can function fairly well. Writing was the best medicine for her and still is.
Franny, an author of paranormal romance stories, also loves to write about rainforests and Caribbean islands rather than about cities. Her characters are well rounded and share her wacky sense of humor.

More Than a Shadow (A Short Story)
Tune in to The Gist of Freedom, The Black History Internet Radio show with host Shellie Gaines as we welcome Award winning Playwright & Author Gabrielle Pina! Gabrielle will talk to Shellie about her play "Letters From Zora" ~Starring Vanessa Bell Calloway. Letters From Zora is currently running at the crossroadstheatrecompany.org!
“Letters from Zora: In Her Own Words,” for which the meticulous and poetic Gabrielle Denise Pina, a novelist in her own right, collected Zora’s massive correspondence and crafted it into a monologue delivered at New Brunswick’s Crossroads Theatre with wit, sincerity, and majesty by Vanessa Bell Calloway.
Calloway’s feat of memory is stunning enough. In more than 100 minutes, without a chance to pause, let alone to stop for an intermission, the actress never stumbled, missed a cue for transition, or failed to articulate the genius, both as a writer, and as a woman determined to live independently according to her own principles, of Zora Neale Hurston.
Calloway’s performance is enchanting. Besides being fluid and heartfelt, it reminds us, thanks to Pina’s excellent editing and composition, how extraordinary and how pioneering Zora was.
Everything Zora for stood and fervently believed is revealed in Pina’s text, and Calloway magically embodies the grit and strongmindedness of Zora along with her femininity, abundant sense of humor, and disdain for anything false or condescending.
Yes, the words as Pina’s title tells us plainly, are Zora’s, but Pina is the one who had to take a volume of letters and make them into one cohesive, listenable and "entertaining" work."
Join Sam and Diane as they talk about all things typical to life, love and the pursuit of happiness with an ample dose of laughter. So pull up a chair, pour a drink and enjoy another episode of The Rich Life.
