    The "ART" of the SELFIE

    in Youth

    Lindsay Bottos-Sewell

Lindsay is a 21 year old senior at the Maryland Institute College of Art // photography major, book arts concentrator, gender studies minor, with a focus in fiber arts.

Lindsay's Tumblr Selfie posts caused outrageous, hateful comments from other Tumblr users. An Art Project that turned into hate fueled Lindsay to share an articstic approach to the ever flowing stinging words.

    Quote from Lindsay ~

"I get tons of anonymous messages like this every day and while this isn’t unique to women, the content of the messages and the frequency in which I get them are definitely related to my gender. I almost exclusively get them after I post selfies. The authority people feel they have to share their opinion on my appearance is something myself and many other girls online deal with daily."

My Selfie.... Hott or Naw? Are you a part of the Selfie phenomenon?

    in Lifestyle

My Selfie…. Hott or Naw??? You cannot log on to any social media site and not see at least one selfie.  This is what’s hot and current. Selfies are right up there with abbreviations… smh, lol, wtf and tbt and #hashtags… I must say even my mom can be caught taking a selfie… This is all well and good, but what happens if it is not a great selfie? People really take it to heart when their selfies only get liked by their family and close friends.

A teenager became so obsessed with taking the perfect selfie that he tried to kill himself when his efforts failed. Danny Bowman, 19, would spend 10 hours a day taking up to 200 photos of himself on his iPhone. The teenager dropped out of school, remained housebound for six months and lost two stone in an attempt to capture the perfect self-portrait. Danny eventually became so depressed that he took an overdose, but he was discovered by his mother Penny and rushed to hospital. He told the Mirror : “I was constantly in search of taking the perfect selfie and when I realised I couldn’t I wanted to die. I lost my friends, my education, my health and almost my life."

On the adverse… some people have gained fame and fortune taking selfies…

Jen Selter is an Instagram sensation, this 21-year-old currently boasts over 4.9 million Instagram followers and 3 million Facebook fans…. She has a message for the "haters" - her butt is not fake!

Either way there is a lot of hoopla going on about Selfies… and you know 3D always has to have its piece of the pie…

Irate, Tireless Minority - Privacy in a selfie culture

    in Politics Conservative

Doing my best to help the Lord set the brushfires of freedom in the hearts of men and to restore America, God willing, to the beacon of freedom she was meant to be.

    Politics:

Just a quick update on the Kohler strike.

    Religion:

Doing good? The role of churches in destroying
    America

    Doing What's Right:

Of what value is privacy in a connected and narcissistic world? It's still your choice, but you have to pay attention.Let manufacturers know that privacy is valuable by choosing products that protect it. Everything from photos to office programs to fitness trackers are now requiring far more information than they should to provide goods and services. When's the last time you had to let IBM know when, where and for what you were using their typewriter, much less giving the the whole world including the government possible access to everything you were typing on it?
      Think before you app.
