“I need a drink” is a common catch phrase people use to sum up a bad day. The culture is rife with advice that a “nice glass of wine” is all it will take to feel better about whatever challenges life dishes up. So, when we are faced with big health issues, like anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses; physical illness or changes in our physical health; or stress caused by any social or familial changes or losses, it can seem like an easy fix to pick up a drink to “take the edge off.”
As alcoholics, this response becomes our go-to. We come to depend on alcohol to deal with our problems. It becomes a vicious cycle as our bodies and brains are stressed from processing the alcohol, as we stuff our emotions deeper and deeper down inside, and as we become dependent on the drink to fix us.
We find great freedom from that dependence in sobriety, but it can be daunting to realize that even though we are now sober, we still have the same issues we had before we sought relief in the bottle - the same anxiety, the same depression, the same hormonal changes, the same trauma. On this show, our guests will share their experiences about how they found new and better ways to deal with their lives. From menopause to dual diagnoses, we can move from self-medicating to proper self-care!

I have suffered from anxiety ever since I can remember. Social anxiety, incesant, debilitating anxiety. I called it by by different names; addiction, sensitivity, artist, all trying to explain, define, understand, and diagnose why life why always so hard for me. I self-medicated, using pot, food, sex, love, TV, etc. Now, as I become aware of the true nature of my struggles, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
On today's show, let's discuss this little bugger and the ways we try to quiet that voice in our heads, the one that says we can't do anything, shouldn't do anything, aren't good enough to do anything, and do everything wrong. If you suffer from depression and anxiety, this is the episode for you.

What form of self-medication are you utilizing? We are such a complicated, yet simple creature. We hear something, see something on the internet or hear a piece of news and believe it to be fact! We create most of the stress we encounter in relationships and life because we have not set up simple processes to handle information or difficult situations that arise! How many of you stress eat? Stress smoke? Sexual addiction? We create habits based on the need to feel better as we tend to avoid the situation that is causing us stress. Don't believe me? Homework for you: Watch a reality TV show and see what self-medication habit one of the cast members has. Do they pick up a drink every time there is an issue? Want to know your self-medication habit? You may have one that you don't even know about! Most of us think it is a drug addiction, alcohol or smoking, but it can be much, much more! How's your relationship with a significant other? Sex okay? Hmmm....join Hopkins and I as we take you on a journey in discovering self-medication and how to avoid it.

What follows is part 4 of a four part conversation at a small group gathering hosted by Delrae J. Bantz of the Life Learning Center of Self in October of 2014. Delrae invites you to host a gathering of friends and she will join you to help you all get some answers to your questions as well as help you hone the skill of asking questions that will lead you to truth. Our guest for hour 2 : Beth Clay
Ms. Clay is a health freedom advocate and former Senior Professional Staff Member who lead the health
care oversight team on the House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform and Oversight
with then Chairman Dan Burton of Indiana. The investigations and conducted hearings included looking
at the role of complementary and alternative medicine in our health care system, dietary supplement
regulation, the over medicating of very young children labeled with ADHD, vaccine injury and the
epidemic increase of rates of autism spectrum disorders.
Background: Ms. Clay first became known in the complementary and alternative medicine community
from her work both in the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Alternative Medicine and subsequently
the United States Congress. She was recruited from the NIH to lead a Congressional inquiry looking at
the role of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in our health care system. This would expand to look
at the implementation of dietary supplement health and education act of 1994. In addition to the
government officials who were called before the Committee,
Ms. Clay would bring experts such as Drs. Dean Ornish, Wayne Jonas, Jeremy Geffen as well as nonprofit
leadership such as Dannion Brinkley and Dr. James Gordon before the Committee in order to
educate and raise awareness of issues
She serves as an International Human Rights Commissioner with the Citizens Commission for Human Rights
It is not anarchy!!! Self-governance must be restored across America.
A government where our American heritage of self-governance is restored.
What is Self-Governance?
The United States of America was created by self-governing citizens. The main purpose of government is to protect the citizen’s natural rights to Life, Liberty and Property. The federal government should only act where we, the people, have intentionally granted authority. Self-governance ensures that citizens control the selection and accountability of elected officials and governmental administrations. Self-governance is our answer to the most basic question: “Who decides?”
In a self-governing society, decisions are made as close to home as possible, optimally by the individual, the family, or the community. Thousands of grassroots organizations across our nation are fighting the battle over “Who Decides”.
self-governing will take power away from big government and the big money that influences it…and return the power to its rightful owners, the people.
Restore our country to a republic with effective self-governance.
