Yardie Skeptics (S. 2, ep 3) Secularism in Africa -Wanlov

    in Education

This show is hosted by two of Jamaica's most outspoken secular humanists - Clive Forrester, linguist and professor at York University in Toronto, and Hilaire Sobers, human rights lawyer in Washington DC. We have spent copious amounts of time debating with and challening the notion that Christian privelege should proceed unchecked in Jamaica, and have successfully managed to rally a group of other secularists to collaborate on a publication (forthcoming 2013). This radio show provides a medium in which skeptics can discuss matters of science, critical thinking, religious imposition, and the seperation of church and state all from a Jamaican perspective, but playing close attention to the interconnectedness on the global landscape.
Tune in as we tackle the big questions each and every Sunday at 12:30EST (1:30PM Jamaican time) - lively banter, music and trivia, probing questions... we are Yardie Skeptics.

    GREATEST EDUCATION REQUIRES RELIGION

    in Politics Conservative

THE GREATEST EDUCATION YOU CAN GET IS A REAL RELIGIOUS ONE

I was blessed to have the benefit of a Real Catholic education, My kindergarten school was PS189. where I learned to spill paint on my coloring book. From there on it was St. Elizabeth's grammar school all nuns and one lay teacher. From there is was on to Bishop Du Bois High School. All priests and Marist brothers and one lay gym teacher. Totally religious exposure. Did I absorb religion like a blotter? What teenager does while hormones bubble?  The gift I received was knowledge of right from wrong. You can call abortion choice but I know it is murder. God says through Moses thou shalt not kill period. Especially your own. Jesus says the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

So therefore knowing right from wrong does not qualify me to throw stones. However I do have an obligation to convince people in trouble from hurting their soul. The schools I was blessed to attend are no more. Convents and churches are up for sale. The same one dollar in the 50's collection basket is in the basket still. My grammar school education was free to parish members. My high school education was $12.00 a month. I had an after school job that paid $12.00 a week. Today big families three or more kids cannot afford a religious education for their children. Off they go to anti religious, anti American secular schools where teachers unions serve themselves first. Just like the fat golden calf government.

Deepertruth: Totus Tuus! Christ The King And the Eucharist (7:00 P.M Central)

    in Religion

Pope Pius XI originally established the Feast of Christ the King  in 1925 to remind modern man that no matter how technically advanced Mankind becomes, Jesus will always be Lord.  The Pope was deeply concerned of the rise of Secularism which today is everywhere.

The Pope wrote, “The faithful, moreover, by meditating upon these truths, will gain much strength and courage, enabling them to form their lives after the true Christian ideal. If to Christ our Lord is given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all men, it must be clear that not one of our faculties is exempt from his empire. He must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ. He must reign in our wills, which should obey the laws and precepts of God. He must reign in our hearts, which should spurn natural desires and love God above all things, and cleave to him alone. He must reign in our bodies and in our members, which should serve as instruments for the interior sanctification of our souls, or to use the words of the Apostle Paul, as instruments of justice unto God.” (Quas Primas #33, Liberia Editrice Vaticana)
