CALL IN FAVORITE ABENA STORIES...DON"T BE SHY...SHE WOULD"NT BE!
FRIDAY, JULY 31 ,2015....11;PM-11:30PM CST
Abena Joan Brown, one of the early pioneers of African-American theater in Chicago and the president and chief executive officer of the eta Creative Arts Foundation for 40 years, died on Sunday. She was 87.
Articulate, passionate and intimidating to behold, Brown ran eta with uncompromising determination and old-fashioned formality, shepherding the organization to new facilities in an old window factory on S. South Chicago Avenue, near the corner of 75th Street, and always pushing for further growth
As Brown often said in interviews, her impetus for starting eta was her own inability to find work as an artist: Its precursor was founded in 1969 by Brown, alongside Okoro Harold Johnson, Al Johnson and Archie Weston.
Operating initially under the name Ebony Talent Associates, the group wanted to increase exposure and opportunities for African-American actors in Chicago. But Brown found that more training was needed for those actors, and thus eta was born.
Upon graduating Bible College in l982 from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Tx. James fulfilled his call to ministry in many different areas including home care leader, Bible teacher, pulpit preacher, and writer. His writing, to this point, has brought attention to the family and leadership as the Holy Spirit continues to disclose different areas for attention.
James’ first book ‘Am I A Priest…Servant/Leader’ laid the foundation for an ABC how-to look at the roles and responsibilities of the servant/leader. His passion has always been to help leaders, primarily men, understand their role and responsibilities as a servant/leader.
James compiled ‘Unmasking the Deception of Dysfunction’ as the Holy Spirit began revealing to him the depth of dysfunction. In this project he takes the reader on a thought-provoking journey through the hills and valleys of one’s personal life. As time progressed he began to see how dysfunction affects people across all areas including government, education, military, ministry, family, and the work place. This revelation gave him, as it were, a moving screen showing how the ball of dysfunction rolls along from childhood into adulthood and the role of leadership.
The current book ‘Unmasking the Deception of Dysfunction’ goes into a much different direction by pointing out how dysfunction is so wide spread. It knows no limitations and thwarts the boundaries into the leadership arena. His goal, as a writer, and his signature writing style has become one of self examination by purposefully-placed questions throughout the book.
It is James’ desire that by using the tools revealed herein a person is challenged and encouraged to become more complete in his/her leadership role.

LOTL The Comfort Zone Welcomes Lindsey Webster, debuts new CD " You Change "
NEW YORK (June 17, 2015) Do you remember that moment when you first heard Anita Baker or Sade; the effortless, sultry, and soaring vocal that captures all of your attention? Lindsey Webster’s delicate and powerful voice takes you to that place - an unabashed nod to the greats and yet 100 percent Lindsey. The Soul Songstress is proud to announce the release of her sophomore album, You Change, via Atlanta Records on July 17. The album is an eloquent collection of work showcasing Webster’s expressive vocals and uncanny talent and the two lead singles “Fool Me Once” and “Open Up” are out now and available to stream HERE. “"You Change” shows the growth we’ve made as artists since our first album; in both our songwriting and who we are as artists. From a delicate song like “Bleed”, a song about utter heartbreak, to an anthem like “I’m Strong”, we explore many facets of our songwriting and are extremely happy with the result”, states Webster.
In 2009, Lindsey met her partner, Keith Slattery, and started performing professionally. Together, with a band of world-class musicians, they’ve performed over 600 shows in venues including Bearsville Theater, Levon Helm Studios, Helsinki Hudson, Daryl’s House, The Falcon, The Lambs Club, Rockwood Music Hall, The Red Lion, and Groove.
The success of her first album and winning “Best Acoustic Song” in the Independent Music Awards caught the eye of Brian Hurst from UK’s soulandjazz.com. Hurst brought Webster to Atlanta Records, who signed her to release her second album, You Change.
