The Educators Panel shared their thoughts on an article that recently appeared in the Christian Science Monitor (click here) in which recommendations for improving school discipline from the Discipline Disparities Collaborative were described. And they had some thoughts on a bunch of other things too!

This is a final thought on our responsibilities in our society to our children. As parents sometimes we drop the ball but we are accountable. It is heartbreaking to lose a child to the confusion of this world the tricks ,lies, and deceit, drawing our children away from the joy of being His. We are responsible for discipline.

Education is clearly a necessary path for children caught in the web of poverty and despair. The fact that there is failing schools means we have failed as the guardians of this generation to offer them vision and opportunity. Tonight we will hear a dynamic 15 minutes by Marquette professor Howard Fuller. There is an African Proverb which states, "It takes a whole village to raise a child" I would add provided the village values their children.

One of the key responsibilities of a school board member is negotiating the contract for teachers and staff. It is, by far, the place where most of the district’s financial resources are allocated; as well it establishes other protocols which affect student achievement. Each year brings new challenges. In 2015, what are those challenges? How should boards approach the Chapter 78 health benefit reform legislation? What is the importance of average settlement rates? How long can a district expect negotiations to take? What are some common misperceptions the public has about negotiations? Please join host Ray Pinney as he discusses these and other issues with Patrick Duncan, Manager of NJSBA Labor Relations Department.
