When children are victims of a disaster, a school shooting, or perhaps the loss of a classmate or someone close to them, we, as parents, teachers, or mental health professionals need to know how best to assist their grieving process.
As the media reports on school shootings, deaths of children, and tragedy beyond comprehension, one comforting thought is there are trained professionals ready to step in during and after the crisis to help children deal with the loss.
Returning Shattered Lives Radio guest, Dr. David Schonfeld is tops in the field of child bereavement and now heads the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement (NCSCB) which "aims to help prepare professionals working in schools, health care settings, and other community sites to be better prepared to meet children’s needs during and after crisis and loss."

Dr. Umar's Parent Advocacy Chapters
7 Chapters of Parent Advocacy:
From Craig Lewis: Our animal companions mean the world to us. For those of us who have struggled throughout our lives, who have been abandoned, mistreated, subjugated and disempowered, we know the damage that has impacted our psyche. I am one of these people. I know what it means to be damaged to my core. There have been many times in my life when I was unsure if I would make it the next day. There have been many times in my life that the pain I was experiencing was too much to manage and that the prospect of never hurting again was a beautiful thought to have. Even in the past three months, abject despair has, at times, consumed me. However, there was something different going on this time. I have an animal companion in my life who is depending on me to care for him. No matter how bad things became I felt a responsibility to him. His name is Max the Cat. Max the Cat is a rescue. He has experienced abandonment two times in his short life. No matter what was going on with me, I simply could not abandon him. I know the brutal pain of abandonment. Every day I spent time with him, patting him, brushing him and singing to him. He responded by smothering me with his love. He saw and heard me cry every day, sometimes uncontrollably, and he knew of my pain and suffering and he gave me his unconditional love. Without Max the Cat being in my life these past few months, I would be dead. I love Max the Cat and he has helped me stay alive and his love has helped heal me in ways that I have never experienced before. We want to hear from listeners about your precious and loved animal companions. Many of you may have had a loving animal companion who may no longer be with you. This is an opportunity to honor and celebrate all the beauty they brought to your life. For those of us who know the life impacting love of an animal, this is a time to celebrate this love. Bark Bark. Meow Meow. Ribbit.

My guest today, Marlene McCabe, helps parents in court when the state intervenes between them and their children and she gets parent's attorneys to better represent them. Marlene has a facebook page, Public Defender, where she can be reached! This show airs Thrus., 4-23-15 at 7 PM PST and and 10 PM EST. About Mrs. Sharon Pellom
Sharon V. Pellom is the eleventh child from a family of fourteen. She grew up in a small town in N.C. She graduated from Meredith College. She obtained an Associate degree in Science, a BA in Sociology and Minor in Education.
Sharon owned and operated STS (Software Training Services) for fifteen years. She is the wife of the retired Atlanta Hawk basketball player Samuel Pellom, and mother of three sons.
Sharon now is a Published Author of the book, HE LIVES, A Living Testimony and an Internet Radio Host on the BlogTalkRadio.com network. Her show is called, Jesusandwe…Talk, What’s On Your Mind, Let’s Take It To The Word…
These 17 testimonies are of her life’s walk on this earth with Jehovah God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Opening up her eyes and heart to the Lord has given her insight on who the Father is, who His Son is and the Holy Spirit.
She has learned that you must want this walk for yourself. You must “Ask, Seek and Knock.” The Father is waiting with open arms. You will not remain the same. She believes man can't give you what is meant for you from the Father. Jehovah has a plan, a plan yet to be completed. All are in that plan. It’s like being in a movie having your very own part to play. All parts lead back to the Creator. So “Ask, Seek and Knock”. Study to show yourself approved and do not leave your salvation up to any man. God does work through man, but the relationship is a vertical one, with you and Our Father.
“Come as a child. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the World…”
And no, she is not a Jehovah witness, but do witness for Jehovah!

Most pet owners will tell you, hands down, that animals have and experience emotion. Many scientists still don’t accept it, however. We’ve been discussing this question here on Full Power Living, this week bringing you Child Psychology Professor Bill Crain (who is married to a pediatrician. He and his wife also operate a sanctuary for animals, which drew him to write about how animals shed light on the emotions of children, looking at six emotional behaviors that are shared by children and animals. Join us as we discuss the instinctive connection between the natural and human world. Click here to visit Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary website.
There is so much to talk about when it comes to spirituality. Which ofcourse means that we reached out to expert Dr. Rosie Kuhn for a third time! Luckily for all of us, she agreed to continue our conversation which we started with her multiple shows ago. This time she will help us address questions like:
What is spirituality?
Why is this an important topic for parents, grandparents, and for all of us?
What are some ways to clarify values for ourselves and our children?
How can we be in the world in such a way that children will follow our lead, and cultivate within themselves spiritual values and competencies?
