    What is Gender?

    in Parents

Today’s guest is Laura A Jacobs, LCSW-R, an advocate for all those discriminated against, marginalized, and otherwise not recognized for their self-defined identity. Laura identifies herself as trans and genderqueer. She is a recognized leader in the advocacy for LGBTQ people.

Laura will help us understand what’s going on socially and politically in the LGBTQ community. The vitriolic hate filled discrimination against people who do not identify as gender binary is no different than hate towards other races, religions, people with mental health problems, and many others.

Laura A. Jacobs: "I am a psychotherapist, activist, public speaker, and author devoted to the exploration of identity and the relationship between individual and society, the diversity of gender identity and sexual expression, and the search for meaning.
As Lawrence Jacobs, I worked in the arts as a musician performing independently and with bands, a composer of solo works and for independent theater, and a photographer exhibiting in galleries, as well as in less glamorous positions such as corporate middle management."

    -------

Brian P., of Newport, Rhode Island, came to the ANTIQUE ROADSHOW with records of his great-grandfather, Charles Edward Minor. The collection, was valued by appraiser Gary Piattoni at between $2,500 and $3,500,  he was a decorated African American seaman a mere 20 years after the abolition of slavery.

After retiring from the Navy at 52, Minor had the wherewithal to buy a four-bedroom home in Newport and to invest in the stock market. Again, Minor was ahead of his time. Says Brian, "Some of the stocks didn't pan out, but he was buying stocks a hundred at a time during the Great Depression. Black man or white man, that's something." True, yet it is all the more remarkable for a black man in a society that would be segregated by law for another 30 years.

Redefine Busy: gain control of ur business & get ur life back w Bryan Caporicci

    in Entrepreneur

Join Amy Zellmer as she chats with Bryan Caporicci

Three take-aways you will learn in this podcast:
    1. Become aware of your use of the word “busy” and don’t use it as an excuse or status.
    2. How to do more in less time.
    3. Become aware of how you spend your time and stay focused on meaningful tasks that move the needle.

Entrepreneurship isn’t about being busy. It isn’t about more money, more connetions or more opportunities. Entrepreneurship is about freedom, flexibility and control. It’s about doing what you love and making a living doing it. It’s about designing the lifestyle you want and creating a business that fits into it. Yet, many solopreneurs do the opposite ~ they structure their life around their business. They put their clients first; somtimes even before their own family. Many are a slave to their business and can’t let go, can’t turn it off and can’t unplug.

Let’s redefine your relationship with time. Let’s redefine how and where you chose to invest your attention. Let’s redefine your priorities. Let’s redefine your business. Let’s redefine busy.

Bryan Caporicci is an award winning wedding and portrait photographer based out of Fonthill, Canada.  Bryan is also the CEO and Founder of Sprout Studio, the photography industry's first all-in-one system combining Studio Management software with Online Galleries, Album Proofing and the revolutionary new Sales Galleries. In 2014, he was awarded his Masters of Photographic Arts designation by the Professional Photographers of Canada
