What is a Role Model? Seems like an easy answer -- someone that inspires you. But there may be more permutations than that, so we thought we'd explore it a little more deeply, starting off with perhaps the mother of all role models, Eleanor Roosevelt. I met Shannon Butler when she gave me a tour of Val-Kill, Mrs. Roosevelt's private home. I was inspired by Shannon's enthusiam, knowledge & apparent joy in imparting it. That gives us a glimpse into what a role model can do.
Shannon graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in history and is pursuing that further at University at Albany. She has worked on all that while working as a National Park Ranger! She calls herself all all-American Hudson Valley girl.

Tune in and join me as I welcome this week's guest.
Author David Robert joins me this week to talk about his book: Wanderlush.
When David, a self-proclaimed anxiety-ridden introvert, convinces himself he’s dying of cancer, he invites his delightfully unpredictable, -popping, chardonnay-swilling mother on a series of international good-bye vacations. By doing so, he unwittingly opens a Pandora’s Box of hilarious and humiliating events that will test just how far they are willing to go to get a laugh.
David knows the trips will be anything but boring because he and his mom have been causing a scene for as long as he can remember. He describes her as a cross between Bea Arthur and Karen Walker from Will and Grace, and she is notorious for bending the rules.
But nothing can prepare him for escapades that include digging his mom out of a rain gutter in Costa Rica and being dragged across the Arabian Desert by a psychotic camel named Forrest Hump. As the vacations unfold, David discovers that although he and his mom are having the time of their life, she is ready to share a secret that will change everything.

Join me "In the Pickle Brrel" at 8AM EST- 10AM EST as we take a look at issues of the week that may not have made your radar. Do you know the USA is suffering due tothe lack of immigration? Finally, some bipartisanship in both the House and Senate, even if it means nothing. One "major" candidate losing vital support in bid for the Presidency. Is it possible a major US airport may discontinue honoring World War II heroes to honor Obama? A budget; but, not really. These are just a few of the updates and commentary today "In the Pickle Barrel".
The hosts discuss the developing NHL playoff picture and Jon Sloan joins us to discuss the proposed Roosevelt Community Sports Center, which would add some needed recreational ice to the Seattle area.
Tonight's parsing: The 1974 book "Alive" by Piers Paul Read and the documentaries and movie the story inspired. The story is about the Uruguayan rugby team who were involved in the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed into the Andes Mountains between Chile and Argentina on October 13, 1972. Of the original 45 people on the plane, 16 eventually survived for 72 days in the brutal mountains to finally be rescued.
We have got in the rutine of teasing a second subject, so with that in mind, we have been itch'n to start talking about the 1964 movie, "The Great Escape." The true story of the ordeals of prisoners escaping from a German prison camp during World War II.
While Ken is away, the "womenfolk" will play! Join Korrine, Auntie Atheist and Jenn as we discuss what is going on in the world of women. What new atrocities is religion imposing on women? What's new with women in the political arena? What is the latest new on topics relating to....you guessed it! WOMEN! We may even get a couple of men on the show to voice their opinions...if they dare ;)
