Samhain is the Wiccan New Year. This is the time of year when the veil between the world of the dead and the world of the living is said to be at its thinnest. Spirits and souls of loved ones are said to have more power and ability to visit us. This is the time of year for remembering and honoring our dead, and many people will leave a plate of food and a glass of wine out for wandering sprits. (This is often called the Feast of Hecate) Samhain is also a time for personal reflection, and for recognizing our faults and flaws and creating a method for rectifying them.

With the great loss of Pete The Pathfinder Davis of the Aquaraian Tabernacle church just last night at 6pm pacific time. The show has been delayed and will start at 2pm today.

    Blessed Be, Miss Syleena

Voices' Samhain Celebration with Cathleen Kelly

    in Spirituality

Halloween, a day beloved by kids of all ages, has another much older name, Samhain. Once again I'm delighted that Cathleen Kelly will join me to share in a celebration of this ancient autumn rite. In the Northern Hemisphere, autumn is a time that the Earth goes through an apparent death.  Trees shed their leaves, harvested fields turn brown and cold with frost, and the land becomes a place of deep stillness. It is at Samhain we celebrate this transition and join in ceremony to remember the dead and honor our ancestors.

There will be readings and ceremony to deepen our understanding of this special day as we contemplate the endless cycle of life, death, and eventual rebirth.  To heighten the experience listeners are encouraged to have the following assembled before the show: a white candle, a black candle, three ribbons or yarn, one black, one red, and one white, and some sprigs of rosemary.  No need to worry if this isn't possible, but having at least a single candle on hand would be perfect.

If listening live on Wednesday isn't possible, this would be an excellent show to hear later in the week, especially on Friday itself.....Halloween! Cathleen and I look forward to your joining us as we celebrate this ancient and sacred day.

Beltane is a major Sabbat, cross quarter on the Wheel of the year. It is at 15 degrees of Taurus, or May 1st. In Wiccan mythology it is the sexual union and/or marriage of the Goddess and God

Beltane is the last of the three spring fertility festivals - the others being Imbolc and Ostara. Beltane is the second Celtic festival (the other being Samhain). Celebrated approximately halfway between Vernal (spring) equinox and the midsummer (Summer Solstice) that makes it a cross quarter holiday

Beltane, and its counterpart Samhain, divide the year into its two primary seasons, winter (Dark Part) and summer (Light Part). At Samhain we honor Death. At Beltane, its counterpart, we honor life. It is the time when the sun is fully released from his bondage of winter and able to rule over summer and life once again.
