Pickles have a long history going back to 2400 BC. Aristotle thought that cured cucumbers had healing properties, and Julius Caesar fed pickles to his men as he believed that they offered physical and spiritual strength. Cleopatra believed her beauty came from eating large amounts of pickles. Ever wonder who brought pickling to the New World? Shout out to Christopher Columbus who grew cucumbers in order to pickle them. In the 1500s, the area which is now New York City had the largest group of Dutch commercial picklers. Americans as a whole eat more than 2.5 million pounds of pickles, and dill pickles are twice as popular as sweet pickles. What do you do when your garden blesses you with an abundance of cucumbers? Steve Zielinski shared his cucumber crop with friends, family, and co-workers, but discovered everyone had their limit on the crunchy cukes. So when life gives you lemons, or in this case cucumbers, you make pickles. And in July of 2009 Crazy Steve's Pickles & Salsa was born. Steve’s products are found in 25+ stores and have been sold nationwide. Varieties include Black Bean & Corn Salsa, Green Smokin Salsa, Mesquite Fire Roasted Salsa, Shot Over the Rim Spicy Bloody Mary Mix, Badass Barnacle Bloody Mary Mix, Cajun Cukes, and Let the Sunshine Pickles. Products are gluten free, vegan friendly, low sodium, natural ingredients, and feature unique flavors. Crazy Steve's Foundation aims to make the world a better place by donating to charities in education, the environment, health, human services, community development, international causes, and arts and culture. Steve has another mission—he’s running for NJ State Assembly’s 12th District in the Green Party. After the interview, please check After Hours with Jersey Coastal Live for more info.

How in the world do you learn how to Salsa dance? There is a way I have just discovered. Morry Krispijn's Dance Company in the Netherlands produced a Salsa DVD which you can use to learn how to dance the Salsa. Isn't that cool?
Perhaps you are thinking persons who currently experience the symptoms of Parkinsons could never do the Salsa. Think again my friends. Morry tells me that persons with Parkinson's are actually quite a bit better at doing Salsa dancing than persons who do not have the symptoms. Isn't that fascinating?
I believe Salsa dancing is a fantastic activity for a Parkinsons Support group, especially if you are getting bored with your usual routine. If you are not having enough fun this year, dance to the Salsa. Morry tells me Salsa does wonders for persons who currently experience the neurological symptoms of Parkinsons Disease.
Start the new year out with Salsa dancing. Try it! I think you will like it.
