Sacred Sunday~I Corinthians Chapter 4/Fools For Christ

    in Spirituality

Paul of Tarsus: Professional House Sitter

The apostles are like house sitters taking care of God's place while he's temporarily out of town. Sure, you have to check the references for your house sitter, but other than that, you're good. And Paul's references—namely Jesus—are pretty ironclad. That's why the Corinthians shouldn't judge his work against the work of others. God has already vouched for him. It's not like Paul is never going to face judgment—but that, friends, is up to God himself. In short: don't do God's job for him, Corinthians. But then again, Paul tells them, maybe it's cool for you guys to judge in God's place because you're so amazing. Sarcasm alert! After all, the Corinthians are the greatest, right? They're rich as kings! They have power and wisdom and strength and everyone loves them! They're the best! (Not.) And the poor apostles—like Paul—are just poor and weak and hungry and thirsty and homeless and beaten and weary and… okay, we get it Paul.

    Daddy Dearest

Look, Paul says, sarcastic comments aside, he's not trying to be a jerk. He doesn't want to embarrass the Corinthians or make them feel bad. Um, okay… He's kind of acting like their dad. Um, Paul, isn't that God's metaphor? Paul watches over them along with Jesus like a father. So do as he says, kids. Paul tells them that he's sending Timothy to Corinth so that he can remind the little children of the church how they should be acting. And if Paul doesn't hear a good report… well, then, he is going to have to come down there, young church! And he might be bringing his belt with him. Run, kids! Thanks to www.shmoop.com

What's Hot: Pittsburgh Steelers OTAs, Week 1 matchup and the 1978 team

    in Football

It's never too early to make predictions.

That's just one thing we'll do in the newest edition of "What's Hot", which will air live Wednesday night on ourBlogTalkRadio page at 9:00 p.m. ET. We'll discuss the Steelers' quotes from earlier this week regarding the team's Week One matchup against the Patriots, while also offering some Fact or Fiction predictions about the 2015 Steelers that will include discussions about the Steelers' offense's shot at being No.1 in the NFL, the defense and how many turnovers it will record in '15, DeAngelo Williams' future production and what Pittsburgh's record will be after three games.

Last week, the Steelers uniforms were named as the NFL's best by ESPN. Which variation of the Steelers' jersey is your favorite? Chris Carter and I will discuss which is our favorite Steelers uniform.

Co-host and fellow BTSC writer Chris Carter and I believe that the 1978 Steelers are the best team in NFL history. In light of the NFL's Network's Dynasty Week celebration last week, what team do we think could rival the 1978 Steelers as the best team in NFL history? We'll break down the other great teams in NFL history to see if there really is a worthy challenger that could go toe-to-toe with the great Steelers of '78.
To make your voice heard, call the show at (347) 850-8581 to offer your opinions on whatever it is you want to discuss about the Black and Gold. If you can't listen live, search "The Standard is The Standard" on iTunes to listen to the podcast anytime. The podcast will also be featured Thursday here on BTSC.

From Darkness to Light: The Power of Names

    in Religion

Throughout the ages poets and philosophers have mused about the nature of names and the effect they have on the holder? Some names were considered mundane while others were considered sacred. Some names were known openly while others were shrouded in secrecy. For it was widely accepted in the old world that the name of a thing was the key to understanding and manipulating its power. By today’s standards these notions may appear to be nothing more than superstitious jargon - but to the Ruling Elite of this world the Power of Naming is much more. It is the secret weapon in an age old war against the people of God, which they believe allows them to change their Destiny and the course of Human events on Planet Earth. Join us today for another installment of “From Darkness to Light” as we look beyond science and superstition to find salvation in the Name above all Names “Our Lord Jesus the Christ!”

    Lugnuts and Horsepower

    in Sports

The best weekend of racing has passed, and what a celebration it was.  Dustin Parks and Patti Rodisch try to break down all that happened.  It started with the Indianapolis 500, as former NASCAR and F1 star Juan Pablo Montoya brought Penske back to victory lane at Indy, his second win in the grand race.

To cap off the night, the long 600-mile marathon at Charlotte saw the victory come down to a critical stop, and who had enough fuel to make it to the finish.  It would be Carl Edwards seeing his first Charlotte win, his first with Joe Gibbs, and a sweep of Cup competition for JGR in the last two weeks at NASCAR's home track.

In all of this, the newest list of inductees to the NASCAR Hall of Fame were announced, with a few surprises that both made the cut, while others were left to wait again.

Finally, a look ahead to the Monster Mile, and the triple-header at Dover.  Tune in to hear it all.
