Editor-in-Chief Peter Trippi on Supporting the Visual Arts Today

    in Art

What does it take to support and curate the visual arts in today's competitive environment? Join us as Peter Trippi, editor-in-chief of Fine Arts Connoisseur magazine, talks about the current art world and what he does to help artists succeed.

Peter Trippi is editor-in-chief of Fine Art Connoisseur, the bimonthly magazine that serves collectors of historical and contemporary representational painting, sculpture, drawings, and prints.  He is also president of Projects in 19th-Century Art, Inc., the firm he established to pursue a range of research, writing, and curating opportunities. Trippi holds a MA from New York University in Visual Arts Administration, as well as a MA in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London.   As director of New York’s Dahesh Museum of Art, Trippi guided its renovation of the former IBM Gallery and presentation of nine exhibitions of 19th-century European art.  In 2002, Phaidon Press published Trippi’s 250-page monograph J W Waterhouse, which reassesses the Victorian painter and Royal Academician best known for his Lady of Shalott at Tate Britain.  Trippi went on to guest-curate the Waterhouse retrospective that appeared at the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands, London’s Royal Academy of Arts, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. He is now co-curating a touring exhibition about the Victorian painter Lawrence Alma-Tadema, to open in 2016 at the Fries Museum, in the Dutch artist’s native city, Leeuwarden. In 2013, Trippi completed a two-year term as president of the nonprofit organization Historians of British Art, and then became president of the Association of Historians of Nineteenth-Century Art.

Lost Arts Radio Show #19 - Special Guest Dale Brown

    in Health

Commander Dale Brown - Real Security: Without Violence, For Individuals, Families, Communities

Commander Dale Brown (www.threatmanagementcenter.com) is an inspiration to others in so many ways. He has demonstrated a working solution to the problem of crime and violence that has not been successfully addressed under our current police system, even with the many outstanding and dedicated officers who give it their all every day to truly serve the people they are there to protect. A new and better idea is needed, where violence is not the answer, and problems are solved in ways that lead to cooperation, peace and a safer environment for all involved.

Powerful forces are currently engaged in trying to stir up conflict all across America (and elsewhere, of course). They are working toward creating and increasing tensions and animosity based on any imaginable way people can feel separate from each other. This is the "divide and conquer" strategy at work. Race against race, male against female, rich against poor, Republicans against Democrats, and most recently people at odds with the police. Federally originated shoot-first, aggressive tactics training has been implemented all over the country, resulting in increasing incidents of police shootings, and now even people's pets are being targeted, in almost unbelievable displays of brutality under color of law. Police are taught to be concerned for their own safety as priority one, and to expect attack from those they are supposed to protect and serve.

Dale Brown came up with a brilliant and unconventional solution to the problem of violence, and it is a free market solution, not dependent on government, and not funded by money taken by force from the people in the form of taxes.

    Wanda's Picks Radio Show

    in Art

This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay!

    Guests:
    1. Joe Driscoll, musician, composer, is making his San Francisco Bay Area debut with Sekou Koyate Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Freight and Savage in Berkeley. http://www.thefreight.org/joe-driscoll-sekou-kouyate

Reading of "Rulers of Evil" F. Tupper Saussy by Jörg Glismann Chap 3&4

    in History

EVERY RULED SOCIETY has some form of holy scripture. The holy scriptures of Caesarean Rome were the prophecies and ritual directions contained in the ten Sibylline gospels and Virgil’s Aeneid.

The Aeneid implied that every Roman’s duty was to sacrifice his individuality, as heroic Aeneas had done, to the greater glory of Rome and Pontifex Maximus. The Sibyllines, borrowing from Isaiah’s much earlier prophecy of Jesus Christ, prophesied that when Caesar Augustus succeeded his uncle Julius as Pontifex Maximus he would rule the world as “Prince of Peace, Son of God . ” Augustus would issue in a “new world order,” as indeed he did.  The Sibyllines and the Aeneid were so beloved by the government
priests that they were considered part of the Roman constitution.  The same scriptures were made part of the United States Constitution when the mottoes “ANNUIT COEPTIS” and “NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM,” taken from the Aeneid and the Sibyllines respectively, were incorporated, by the Act of July 28, 1 7 8 2 , into
the Great Seal of the United States.

The Sibyllines and the Aeneid were open only to priests and certain privileged persons. The people learned their sacred content by the trickle-down of priestly retelling. W h e n the Old and New Testaments were adopted as the Empire’s official sacred writings
they, too, were given to the exclusive care of the priests.  And in accord with Roman tradition, the people learned sacred content from discretionary retelling.  This had to be, for the sake of the Holy Empire. For should the people acquire biblical knowledge,
they would know that Pontifex Maximus was not a legitimate Christian entitlement. Knowing this, they would not bow to his supremacy.
