This weeks guest is Candace Lutzow-Felling, Director of Education, State Arboretum of Virginia/Blandy Experimental Farm
VSELA Executive Committee NSTA Board of Directors, Director of Informal Science Education. Candace was raised in Chicago. She grew up climbing trees and enjoying the view of her world from up high. After high school, she left the city to attend college at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. There she learned to forage for edible wild plants to supplement her meager income.
This combination of a practical need for sustenance, proximity to the Shawnee National Forest with a high plant biodiversity, and an enthusiastic group of botanists who invited her to accompany them into the field encouraged Candace to pursue both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in botany.
