Harry C. Boyte, delves into the idea that Americans feel powerless to address the mounting problems that face this country. In an opening essay, Boyte advises educators to claim and use their sometimes unappreciated power in the face of these problems. He challenges them to lead a movement in the rethinking of education, the meaning of citizenship, the state of the working world in today’s society, and the challenge of addressing public issues. Boyte believes that education is “the anchoring institution of citizenship.” Education, according to Boyte, shapes public identities and career paths of students and influences the methods and structures of many professions. Boyte coordinated an association, called the American Commonwealth Partnership, of several hundred colleges and universities to strengthen higher education as a public good. This book builds on the ideas practiced by the American Commonwealth Partnership.
In the book, Democracy’s Education presidents and public officials portray their roles as public philosophers and architects of wide ranging policy changes. There are accounts from students, faculty, and staff in which they discuss the changing curriculum, student life, and alumni relationships. All of these factors allow current students to create opportunities to develop public action and concern for a commonwealth which they are helping to generate. Students also narrate their findings and experiences of becoming controlling factors of change, and get into their plans for careers packed with public principles.
There are four ways to become a United States citizen (USC): 1) Birth in the US, 2) Birth Abroad, 3) Derivative Citizenship, and Naturalization. Generally, to naturalize, one has to be a green card holder/lawful permanent resident for five years. Exceptions, if your green card was obtained through marriage to a USC, it is three years. If your spouse is a USC, in the US military and stationed abroad, it is much less than five years when one can apply for USC. If your USC spouse is a stationed abroad, and working for a US company that is providing trade, commerce, and other significant benefits to the US, that five year requirement is much reduced. If you are 50 or older and have your green card for more than 20 years, you can take the test in your native language and you are exempt from the reading and writing portion of the test. If you are 55 or older and have your green card for 15 years or more, you can take the test in your native language and you are exempt from the reading and writing portions of the test. If you have a medical condition and a doctor sign off on Form N-648, you may get exempted for taking the entire test. You will still have to show that you are a person of good moral character, you do not have major crimes, and you do not owe local, state, and/or federal taxes.
It is my opinion that each person who is a USC, 18 or older, and you do not have restricted liberties should vote. In Minnesota, one can register to vote and vote on Election Day. In Minnesota, one can register to vote Online, at the DMV, and at various other outlets.

That also applies to my side.Das gilt auch meinerseits. But tell me what you have to say about this: today I heard in the news that the Russian President, Putin, at the Munich Security Conference, has energetically spoken his mind regarding the politics of the USA. Putin said that the USA is striving for world rule, respectively, world power, and thereby also promotes the resuming of the arms race, interferes in the trade of foreign countries and practices warlike actions.

The sound of an apparent explosion can be heard on the flight recorder of the Russian-operated plane that came down over the Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 people on board, adding to mounting evidence that a bomb was smuggled aboard, French media sources said on Friday. Giving further credence to the idea that the plane crash was a terrorist act rather than because of structural failure, Russia, which for a week has been resistant to speculation about a bomb, suspended flights to all Egyptian airports.
An Egyptian-led international team of aviation experts, including some from France, successfully recovered the black box, the flight recorder, from the crash site. Several French media outlets, including the television station France 2, reported that the investigators had listened to it and concluded that a bomb had detonated, which would seem to rule out structural failure or pilot error. The pilots can be heard chatting normally, including contact with airport controllers, up until the apparent explosion.
The reports about the black box contents came as British attempts to bring passengers home from Sharm el-Sheikh descended into chaos on Friday.

This week on 'Behind the Headlines', we're analysing the extraordinary shooting down of a Russian Su-24 bomber in Syria by a Turkish F-16. Everyone is noting how 'stupid' the Erdgoan government is for sanctioning such an act, especially given the negative Russian reaction. But a closer look indicates that Erdogan either had no choice but to go along with the pre-planned provocation, or he was simply informed of it after the fact.
Tune in this Sunday November 29th, 2015, from 2-4pm EST / 8-10pm CET as hosts Joe Quinn and Niall Bradley go behind the headlines to identify the real orchestrators of the attack on Russia, and what this critical border incident means in the context of 'the Great Game' playing out across Eurasia.
