When The New 52 rebooted the DC Universe back in 2011, that meant pretty much every DC comic book character got a new costume. A large portion of the Justice League – including Batman, Superman, and The Flash – received similar updates (courtesy of Jim Lee). They all vaguely resembled the old costumes, of course – Superman with his reds and blues, Batman with his grays and blacks, and The Flash with his yellows and reds – but the new ones all looked armored and had similarly intricate line work.
Okay everyone we're on the cusp of the biggest sporting event of the year! We all know the participants. It will be Brady's Pats against Wilson's Seahawks! There are subplots after subplots and many questions to be asked and answered. Will Tom Brady go down as the best quarterback/football player to ever play the game, or will Russel Wilson get his second Super Bowl ring in three years to have a heck of a start in building his own legacy. I'll try to answer those questions and others in this "Super" edition of "The Jay Byrd Show!"
Well, the 2015 NFL season is over (thank goodness) and yet the sports world rolls along. But "nothing is over til we say it is!" On this week's episode:
- We discuss all things Superbowl, both on and off the field. We start on the field with Mr Bowers laying out in a nonviolent protest
- In segment 2 we talk off the field Superbowl stuff, including 1,000 hours of pre-game, the National Anthem, Halftime and Left Shark, commercials and all the other stuff in the NFL
- The Mick is finally back! We gather around the campfire and listen to him spin some yarns on his thoughts on the world at large
- It's time to pivot to other sports, starting with baseball. With several Top Prospects lists coming out, we get our baseball experts, Feltman and Dustin, to break it all down and gear us up for Spring Training
- We conclude by cramming all the other sports into one final segment including Maverick's injuries and All-Star stubs, Stars on the rise, Tiger is done, Lance still lying, Tennis down under and whatever else we can cover before the clock runs out!
SO jump on board and listen LIVE Wed Feb 4 from 830-1030p CST or anytime after on Itunes or at www.thesportsnarrative.com
Ahead of the debut of the Man of Steel’s new power and costume in Wednesday’s Superman #38, DC Comics has released a graphic charting the history of his abilities, from super-speed to flight to, now, super flare.
The conclusion of the “Men of Tomorrow” storyline by Geoff Johns, John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson, the new issue apparently climaxes with the unleashing of what the writer calls “the most destructive power Superman has.”
“And he’s not exactly excited about it because it is so dangerous and there are consequences,” Johns said.
DC bills super flare as Superman’s “first new power in decades,” which, judging from the rather incomplete graphic, may be a reference to the addition of heat vision in 1949. Of course, the Man of Steel has sported new abilities since then — as recently as 1998’s Superman Red/Superman Blue storyline.
