  • Etymology and Word Spelling w/Santos Bonacci, Tony Kilvert & Russell Blattberg

    in Education

THE SHOW WILL BE RESCHEDULED DUE TO WEB ISSUES. THANK U --IISD

''We’re going to cover word spells. How post-Mesopotamian language has had us under the Ol’ Abra-Cadaver trick…. the oldest control trick. Thou hast fallen for the eldest trick in the scroll! How do I even begin? Is it by telling you about how we’ve unwittingly been CAST into the MOLD of ancient SPELLS of our modern SPELLING? CAST just like a MOLD, or perhaps like a NET? while caught, like fish, in the net of spells and spelling that have been cast, thus SENTENCING us to LIFE SENTENCES and the CURSES of CURSIVE which are just TERMS, just like serving a PRISON TERM. So we’ve been SENTENCED to the WARDS of these WORDS which can be deadly as SWORDS if misunderstood or perhaps you missed the understanding of my TERMS or the SYBILS of my SYLLABLES, or even the ancient RITES of writing?? We Languish in our languid Language, in anguish ever since the ancient times of the Anglish angus and the PhonY Phonetic Phonics of the ancient Phoenician Phoenix. You think English is easy? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on. We draw money from our banks which are the edges of a river, which FLOWS in CURRENTS to the SEA, which is why its called CURRENCY, because our CASH FLOWS like pyroclastic ASH FLOWS toward the SEA, which is why we can trace back the ROOTS of all modern TRADE to the ancient Phoenician TRADE ROUTES'' & on and on it goes! --by Cullen Smith

THE NDUSTRY PRESENTS JAZZ-FUSION GUITARIST, CLAY BENJAMIN

    in Entertainment

THE NDUSTRY PRESENTS THE BRILLIANT, SMOOTH, JAZZ GUITARIST, CLAY BENJAMIN!

Clay Benjamin began playing guitar at age 13 in a musical family, which brought him great support. He joined his first band, One Accord, at age 16, the youngest in a key group of experienced musicians. There he started doing live recording sessions while perfecting his onstage presence. Then in 1997, Benjamin became the touring lead guitarist for smooth jazz artist Paul Howards as well as the fusion jazz group Segue. He spent years opening up for legendary artists like Chuck Loeb, Four Play, The Rippingtons, James Brown, Kool and The Gang, Ray Charles, The Commodores and even The Yellow Jackets, the band from that fateful clear cassette tape.

Benjamin went on to play for the show band Diggin' before most recently having the opportunity to tour as the rhythm guitarist for Rev. Al Green. He has graced the stages of The Royal Albert Hall in London; The Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, California; The Manchester Coliseum in Manchester, England; Red Rock Amphitheatre in Colorado; and the BB King Blues Club and Madison Square Garden in New York. His in-studio talent has been secured by gospel stars Uncle Reece and Tito T'Juan and featured on Troy Sneed's charted gospel hit “My Heart Says Yes” and Donald Hayes's album Reflections Vol. 2.

Benjamin is currently embarking on his first solo jazz instrumental project, wearing the hats of performer, writer and producer with equal grace and deftness. The project's first single “I Need You” was met with resounding approval when it debuted at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival early 2014. “I Need You”, as well as his 2011 album Intervention is available on iTunes, Amazon and most music web stores.

  • MORNING SUNRISE/NOONDAY LIBATIONS (episode #8) The Transfiguration

    in Poetry

Episode #8 of our morning show will be our last in the month of Dec  2014! It is the time for reflection as we approch the New Year 2015. Transformation or the Transfiguration as it is called spiritually is the alchemy of the soul. For those in the know THIS is an early morning poetry open MIC event. Other than being a somewhat early morning event on a SunDay our ususal focus is not just poetry it is the spiritual philosophy of sacred sexuality makes it quite unique from other poetry shows &we have just too much fun with it for some folk.

In the wake of the most recent displays of activism I dedicate this particular episode like ALL of Dec's episodes to affirm that ALL life matters &the greater affirmation of life is in living as an AWAKENED One. As we tranfigure the old form of ourselves into the new we do so as we transition ALL so from Old Year to New. As such we have had a wonderful finish to this year in the form of a group effort to take the Samuel L. Jackson video challenge which will not be able to be played on this show because of the length of the file... but may be litened to on  Band Camp's website at https://pantherionprime.bandcamp.com/track/boom-the-samuel-l-jackson-challenge-i-cant-breathe

A moment's passion 1st inked passively w/the pen &then spoken boldy in a circle of dope poets& lush tongues becums. So... cum join me and StarChild7 &others as we joke &laugh, speak seriously, as well as casually about such matters as inspire us to write. Call in or just listen &catch us in the archives. Either way something really wonderful will be shared with you & I know you won't want to miss it! ALL are invited!

  • Live: Celebrating the memory of Jamaica's Reggae Icon Barbara Jones

Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones Dies at the Age of 62

Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones died last Friday at the age of 62 in Kingston Jamaica. Her soul influenced reggae ballads propelled her to popularity in the seventies along with Judy Mowatt and Pam Hall.

Jones was born Barbara Nation in Kingston but grew up in Manchester, a rural parish located in central Jamaica. She began her musical career cutting a cover of American country singer Sue Thompson’s Sad Movies with the Soul Syndicate Band for Randy’s Records.

Most of her popular songs included, Evie Sands’ Angel in The Morning and Walk through This World with Me, originally done by Englebert Humperdinck and Dream Lover.

Jones toured with Jimmy Cliff as a backup singer, before giving up secular music in the early 1980s. She became a Christian and eventually recorded four gospel albums.

In May, Jones returned to her reggae roots by doing two shows in Brazil along with bassist/singer Lloyd Parks. They did shows in the cities of Teresina and Belem. Jones was shocked she had fans in Brazil, a vibrant market for so-called vintage reggae.

“I didn’t know my songs were so popular there. People always told me, I should go to Brazil as they love me there,” she told the Jamaica Observer during an interview after her return.

Barbara Jones is survived by her husband, three children and three grandchildren. The thanksgiving service for her life is scheduled for the Gregory Park Baptist Church on January 10. R.I.P Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones.http://jamaicandivas.com/tag/barbara-jones/

Why are Cavs Fans Acting Like Knicks Fans?

    in Basketball

Not many people expected the Cleveland Cavaliers to be sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference two months into the season. When you build a SuperTeam, 5th place is not where you set your sights ... and Cavs fans are grousing about it.

But when you have a new coach, two imported superstars who have to change their games, a franchise cornerstone (Kyrie Irving) who is not the franchise cornerstone anymore, there are going to be growing pains. And that is what the Cavs are experiencing now -- though they have shown flashes of dominance during their four- and eight-game winning streaks.

So the message to Cavs fans is this ... be patient. And if you need a reminder of what real patience looks like, take a look at the championship starved fans in New York, where the Knicks lead the NBA in losses in the first year of Phil Jackson's team presidency. If Jackson made one major mistake this season, it was predicting a playoff appearance for his hapless band of knuckleheads.

Those were two of the topics of discussion today in this interview with Gregg Gianotti on CBS Sports Radio. Enjoy.

Who U Rock Wit? Cosign or cut off; no fence riding.

    in Entertainment

    Who You Rock Wit?

As life in America becomes more and more perilous, we have to be sure that our village is functioning, and secure. Who You Rock With will set standards against faking. Cosign or cut off; no fence riding. Don't let our only narratives be from the lips of those that hate us. Upset the setup. You are who you rock with.

    Where do you STAND?
If I'm rude to a server or customer service provider some place, they have to swallow it and be professional because in business, the customer is always right.
So explain to me how is it this cop gets away with murdering a teenage boy whose family pays taxes; therefore his salary in part.
Are we not patrons who deserve the same respect? WHY did Mike Brown have to be MURDERED for whatever level of UNARMED rudeness he may have displayed to a heavily armed public servant?

Then we have this ongoing feud between Iggy and Azealia in which the actual issue continues to completely elude Iggy and her supporters. Those ugly conversations nobody wants to have are erupting in ways that yield no resolve. So before anymore blood is spilled let's initiate the talks that will lead to necessary corrective action; but first you have to decide... who you rock with infinitely.
