Join The Gist of Freedom as we discuss The Michael Brown and Eric Garner Grand Jury Verdicts, Police not Indicted, ForThe deaths of Unarmed Black Men, with Roy Paul!
Weeks before the shooting death of Michael Brown this August in Ferguson, Missouri, the death of Eric Garner set off its own wave of protests. The father of six died in July while being arrested for selling illegal cigarettes in Staten Island, after a police chokehold rendered him unable to breathe.
On Wednesday, a grand jury decided not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, the plainclothes NYPD officer who was making the arrest.
There are plenty of differences between the cases of Garner and Brown, but one particular contrast remains salient: There was no footage of Michael Brown's death, only eyewitness accounts and conjecture, leaving minds to imagine a standoff between an officer and a civilian, a standoff that ended with the image of Brown lying dead in the street for over four hours.
Garner's death has harrowing digital footprints. His attempted arrest and struggle for air were captured on a widely-disseminated video. His final words were “I can’t breathe.”
In the aftermath of the verdict, many will likely point to the fact that the coroner's report ruled Garner's death a homicide, and that chokeholds are expressly forbidden by the NYPD.
Let's welcome Roy Paul to our talk show where we explore some political conversations that effect people of Black African Descent.

Tonight on The Gist of Freedom Join host, Roy Paul and guest, former prosecutor Dwayne Nash as they discuss Holder's decision not to charge Zimmerman.
The Justice Department announced Tuesday that George Zimmerman will not face federal criminal civil rights charges for shooting and killing teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012.
Zimmerman fatally shot Martin while the unarmed African American 17-year-old was walking in Sanford, Fla. The shooting became a national flashpoint, sparking a discussion of race relations that continues to reverberate since the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and other incidents across the country.
“The death of Trayvon Martin was a devastating tragedy,” Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said in a statement. “It shook an entire community, drew the attention of millions across the nation, and sparked a painful but necessary dialogue throughout the country.”
As a result of the announcement Tuesday, the federal investigation into the shooting has been closed.

THE CRITICAL MASS SHOW WITH PAUL GIOVANNI, KATE OF GAIA AND MARK COCKING
My Guest Tonight is Aaron Beltran. He’s 23 years old and because of several concussions and head injuries he is multiple Brain Injury Survivor. He I only had a slight concussion was dizzy and got sick after a little while. Then I was fine did not think too much of it. He was told by his Doctors that if I ever hit my head again I probably will not be here anymore. The first time I have had a concussion. I was in fourth grade playing football with all my friends and as I was running to catch the ball, I ran into a tree. I only had a slight concussion was dizzy and got sick after a little while I was fine and did not think too much of it. Then about six months later, I was riding a horse that took off with me. I ended up falling off my helmet came off and I hit my head hard. It also broke my arm on this fall. My mother rushed me to the doctor as I had seizures with this head injury. I don’t remember too much about just what people have told me. Then a couple of years later I was at a horse show and I jumped the fence when I went over the head of my horse and fell on my head. I was wearing a helmet and a safety vest. I still had a bad concussion and was dizzy and sick for two days. A lot of years went by and every now and then for no reason I would get a little dizzy at times and did not think much of it. At the time I was 18 years old and them out foxhunting in Maryland coming up to a jump the horse decided to stop now, when I was foxhunting. We didn’t have a harness on a helmet, so as a horse stopped his head came up hit me in the face and the helmet flew off. I did stay on the horse and had a bloody face my helmet flew off. I did stay on the horse and had a bloody nose, but being who I am. I brushed it off and kept on going for another hour. When I did get back to the barn the grooms asked if I was okay. They said I was white as a sheet and I told them I didn’t feel very well, so they put me in the car and took me to the hospital.
