Wine Muse hosts Linda Rez and William Pollard welcome Chris Kajani from Carneros' Bouchaine Vineyards. Chris has recently taken the winemaking reins from legendary vintner Michael Richmond and she stops by to share the story behind their fantastic Riesling, a non-traditional staple in a region dominated by Pinot Noir.
Hosts Linda Rez and William Pollard from Wild 4 Washington Wine head to Germany, New York and Washington State to talk to winemakers about the world's favorite summer wine, Riesling.
Their first stop will be Germany to speak with winemaker/owner Anne Eifel and taste her Heinz Eifel Spatlese Mosel carried by Winesellers LtD. Afterward, they'll move on to Washington and talk to the world's leading producer of Riesling, Ste. Michelle, and their white wine maker, Wendy Stuckey. They'll delve further into Washington Riesling with the Long Shadows highly acclaimed Poet's Leap Riesling and a conversation with their Director of Winemaking, Gilles Nicault. Finally, they'll end their tour in New York where the hosts will chat with winemaker David Breeden from Sheldrake Point Winery in the Finger Lakes region.

His collection of vinous essays, now featured in The Wall Street Journal, have been praised by restaurateurs (“Filled with small courses and surprising and exotic flavors, educational and delicious at the same time” —Mario Batali), by esteemed critics (“Brilliant, witty, comical, and often shamelessly candid and provocative” —Robert M. Parker Jr.), and by the media (“His wine judgments are sound, his anecdotes witty, and his literary references impeccable” —The New York Times).

Most wine lovers are familiar with European varietals such as Cabernet, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Riesling or Pinot Noir, but these wines come from only one of the world’s many grape species. With its climatic diversity, North America is home to a large number of indigenous grape species whose wine-making potential is untapped. On this episode of Smart Companies KC discover why Vox Vineyards celebrates the remarkable diversity and how they are raising awareness of our native grapes. Vox Vineyards sits above the Missouri river valley with a warm climate that is ideal for growing grapes. This week on Paired with Chef Mary and wine expert Duane Pemberton will be talking about pumpkins, spiced pumpkin soup, savory pumpkin dish, salad with toasted pumpkin seeds and roasted pumpkin.
For this episode, Duane looks to the folks at Pacific Rim Winery to find the perfect match for the goodness that is pumpkin. We taste through their Brut Sparkling Riesling, 2013 Gewurztraminer and 2012 Columbia Valley Dry Riesling.
Chef Mary is a classically trained chef and certified nutritionist. Duane Pemberton is a traveled wine expert - an every day guy that has learned the art of wine - not based on a point scale, but based on what tastes good to him, and you.
Combining the two, Chef Mary and Duane help you to understand the foods you eat, how to prepare great foods for guests or family and what makes the perfect beverage - wine, cider, beer - what ever pairs great with the food, the conversation and the friends you spend time with. Join Travel Brigade in Rudesheim, Germany, as we float along the castle-filled Rhine River, while enjoying locally produced riesling wines. Off the water, you can ride a cable car up to the hills above the river and walk through the vineyards while enjoying beautiful views down to the river. This is known as the “Romantic” area of Germany because there are so many castles lining the river, some that you can even stay in. We’ll also tell you how to make a local treat called a flaming-hot “Rudesheim Coffee.” Enjoy the trip! Follow us on Twitter @TravelBrigade.
