"The Matt Duffin Show" - Dr. Dawn Neuman, RHI & InterFACE

    in Social Networking

"And Away We Go!"  RHI, the 3rd rated Recovery Hospital in the Nation has welcomed me back, but in a different capacity.  Let's take a tour, one show at a time over the next couple of months.   Let's drop by here first, of course I have a ramblin' path.  Ever listen to me?  Yet, Recovery at its finest, but TBI Research is it's common body - thus Indiana University Interaction and Functional Assessment of Communication and Emotion (InterFACE) will soon be a Recovery tool of its own kind.  In the first of a series on TMDS, we have the wonderful Dr. Dawn Neumann to join us.  "It's my baby" she offered.  I tried not to disturb the child.  She is an Assistant Research Professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Clinical Research Faculty at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana.  She is also the Director of the Indiana University Interaction and Functional Assessment of Communication and Emotion (InterFACE) Center at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana. She has her MA in Psychology from Rutgers, NJ and a PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University at Buffalo, SUNY.   Another plus is she doesn't make me be too serious, but I will (in case Dr. Backhouse is listening) ;^)

Take a 'virtual tour of the Rehabilitaion Hospital of Indiana by link:

Call In:  Explain your concerns of Recovery and everyday life.

'The Matt Duffin Show' - HIPPA This: Dr. 'B' & Me

    in Social Networking

HIPPA laws. The good, the bad, the nosey.  After all, medical professionals involved in your health can read the files - and they go home, talk with their spouse, their friends about their work.  Its normal. However HIPPA's intent is to protect privacy.  Yet, my intent is to share medical and heath issuses intow with a Traumatic Brain Injury.  Uh, got's me some experience and education in the TBI field. Enough for paid work?  No. Enough to teach? Occasionally, yes.

Enough to understand that to share the issue, you have to be on stage, removing all privacy in order to communicate understandably with BI folk.  They and 'what ever the issue of the moment is' can be enlightened with 'knowing trustfully' the messenger understands, cares, wants for better than today.  That's me.  Tri-host Sam Way feels the same, but he'll talk about toys, er, games.  Melissa Meeps?  Dunno, have learned NOT to try to understand what women are thinking; just flow.

Of this mental mess if not health shattering past two-months I've led (62 Days, but WHO's counting!), we've made it (so far).  Is there ligtht at the end of the tunnel?  Dunno, wasn't envolved with the constrution of the tunnel.  But, Doctor Samantha Backhaus has been HEAVILY involved with the reconstruction of Matt Duffin.  So be nosey!  Compare. This Rosebud Trooper from The Village me up with Doc "B" on Thursday.  My third appointment is the past month.  Lot's going on.  Lot's.  As a Neuropsycologist locally in Indianapolis, creator of BICS, PEER Mentoring (her style), Couples Care and more, Dr. Sammie's work is very Internationallly known.  But we're keeping her.  Trust me - ya got to go thru Milton first to steal her away from her Hoosier horde of Survivors.

'The Matt Duffin Show' - Wish You Happy New Moments

    in Social Networking

I'm here but back, kinda sorta.  Never went anywhere, my bed (comfortable to the max) has been at Rosebud Village, inside with the mentally disabled and aged troops for 40 Days as of now.  The Milton Home Port has taken a beating, physically and mentally.  Thanks for all the condolences and well hopes from my family of TBI Survivors and freinds, it meant much.

Still does.  So much going on, went on, and may yet again go on, has been frustrating to say the least.  Dad always told me to do the best, with the tools I got.  Occasionally, you'll find your daily tools need sharpened and repaired.  Also time to rest the body and soul, if constant PT can be considered resting!  Behind the lines with the troops.  Never to be forgotten as life is very simple in Nursing and Rehab Facilities, yet very, uh, very well, simply routinely simple.  Nice folks all, but I AM NOT READY FOR THIS!  Time to escape, soon anyway, permitantly.  (Though I do have an a-like Hogan's Hero's system in place).

Dr. Sammie called me on Saturday, just a personal yet neurological conversation about life as is.  Calmed my soul, as the good doctor can do as a friend.  On the Professional side, basically told me to get my ass in RHI NRC and see her next week!  Worried about depression, lost focus and so much stimuli the coping mind can't control - my diagnosis.  At least that's what I'll share.  Let's share just that tonight, as Sam Way and Meep'ster WILL JOIN ME as we start the New Year of Sunday's off with...thoughts of hope, drive, simplicity and healing.

We'll make it.  Devistated, even though expected, dad's death was unexpected.  The sun arises somewhere today (not Indiana), offering glimers of hope.  Unreasonable Belief became a traumatized family's faith - & it worked.

'The Matt Duffin Show' - 5 R's of Stress Control & Race4Time Preview

    in Comedy

Stress Management.  That's a thought.  Uh, so is owning the private, secluded (but replenished) island the S,S Minnow crashed on, now that Gilligan and crew are done with it.  With a better hut, of course.  But Stress is so hard to manage.  The frustration from stress mounts into an explosion at times, from yelling to screaming to spinning around (I get so dizzy anymore).  Lost focus, destruction of plans and its simply not a good 'copinng skill' to have.  This is, its called "The 5 R's of Stress Management" by the originator, Brain Injury Coping  Skills at RHI Neuro Center, or the Doc Lisa School of TBI & Family Center.  Call, join us and share ideas and thoughts or TBI Stress Recognition, Relaxation, Reassuring, Relating and Recovery Do's and Don't.  (424) 243-9540.  Uh, sometimes an Activating Event through your Beliefs may see your Consequences requiring and solid Defense Attorney, which can be you, once learned to defend againnst your own alarming thoughts.

Race4Time (Race4Time.org) is next Saturday, all in one day now.  Whoa, that's a bunch of racing, car showing, draging and 'funning'.  Dr. Kevin Butterfield should call in, if done racing in Michigan today, however the lovely Susan Hancock will join us for what updated inforrmation needed.  Susan, as I've talked, may be the MOST concenernd if not interested 'civilian' in the brain injury world I've met.  But she's race track fast, call, give her information.  And surely, Susan is tired of talking to me this week...

    And now, 'Dr Jim'

'The Matt Duffin Show' - TBI & Racing: A "Breathless Performance"

    in Social Networking

TMDS, BIRN, TBI Survivors Network, Race4Time, The Brain Injury Association of America, The Brain Injury Association of Indiana, Breathless Performance Racing, John Mills Racing, 'Over The Wall' host Jean Kinser Dana, Dr. Kevin Butterfield, Ernie Francis, "the remarkable" Ernie Ty Francis Jr (Trans Am Champ now, and future NASCAR Champion - I called it) have united to 'form' an auto racing 'team' to promote Brain Injury Awareness (I'll slide Recovery in, eventually...).

TOO COOL, and so needed.  The intent is to provide information, discuss TBI with fellow Survivors who literally "banged their head against a wall", bring our everyday Brain Injury Family to the race tracks, meet the drivers and be guests, promote 'Guest Passes' to events for donors, and, well, much much MUCH more.  BI Awareness where it needs to be - Racing, of the most popular sports world wide.  The NFL can avoid the serious condition with a marketing 'ploy' all they want, but Racin' is the true 'game' across International Date Lines.

Join me tonight, and of course Sam Way, as we sit down with the Francis's and discuss racing, BI's and the future of Awareness.  Doc and Jean are expected to join in, and share a lot of good news.  Have I mentioned South Africa?  Gina Gee is literally prancing around the Cape, awaiting a Skype call in tonight.  Me too.  She's an Angel of Hope, Mercy and Life.  Not as is, but as will be.  Uh, my staff of "one" currently has been a bit over worked this week.  It's Water Ski time for RHI Sports this week approaching, as is time with Dr. Dawn Neumann and the new IU Interface Program of Imagining Research.  Plus, its Father's Day, and Pop and I always go to a baseball game if possible.

So, take me out to the ballgame, and bring me back in time for Racin' tonight.

'The Matt Duffin Show' - Out of SOUTH Africa!

    in Social Networking

Ever been to Africa?  Or, watched classic movie "The African Queen"?   How  about ''Out of  Africa"?  This week, I did all three at once, because I met Gina Gee, a beautiful woman with a TBI from South Africa who was a professional horse trainer/rider until a 'wild', or, 'terrorist' horse  (as Gina referred) toppled on her head one afternoon 4 years ago.  A darling, extremely understandable BI Survivor she is, and you will see why.  She needs a few words from other Survivors, as unfortunately, she has , none.  Except us for now.  Listen, hear, burl up, probably  saddle up too!  Its quite a ride.  She stayed up very late for this show, let's not disappoint her or OUR South African 'family' members with words of encouragment and assistance.  Seems, they have none.  An absolute Angel with wings, travel with me.

Dr. Kevin Butterfield often travels with me, and jumped off the plane as well.  NeuroFeedBack is a knowledgeable request, and yes, it came "Out of Africa".  Of course, we will Race4Time!!!!  Trauma Sports Director Dr. Butt said we are.

Mr. Jake Patrick, Sports Director of RHI Sports, will stop by early to give up dates on next weeks Sports Gala - it ROCKS so much.  Yep, Tammy and I will be there.  Speaking of Tammy D'ercole, my "current" Co-Host, special friend and fellow Traumatic Life Survivor joins us all night long.  Yes, all night - my style!  Working on perhaps her own offering on BrainInjuryRadio shows, Tammy brings so much to the table.  She will bring her thoughts, ideas and I'm hoping some she brings is fresh food...

If our darling Belinda checks in, we will be around the world in 180 Minutes!
