Following the shooting at Reynolds High School in Oregon this past week, many media outlets, including CNN, reported that there have been 74 school shootings in the past 18 months.
That's the time period since the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children and six adults were shot to death.
Does media attention, some say sensationalizing, school violence contribute to the cause of such incidents?
Do gun laws have an effect on the violence in schools?
What part do parents play in the picture of violence at schools?
Obviously, there is always enough blame to pass around.
Jump "In the Pickle Barrel" this morning 7-8:30AM EST as we discuss these issues.
In this episode of Soccer Saavy; presented by The Red LIght Sports Network; sponsored by Irresistable Gourmet Popcorn, Mike Murphy and Troy Otradovec tackle a very important soccer in American soccer. Club soccer has grown leaps and bounds over the years. The thing that is happening with club soccer is that players who want to play soccer in college are not playing at the High School level. So what has to happen with club soccer is that the players are now playing club soccer year round and taking away from high school participation. Fasten your seat belts and put your foot on the gas - Mike Murphy has an idea that will make you think he has been tipping the bottle.

Parents who advocate for education reform may sometimes find themselves at odds with school administrators, some of whom parent activists may be blaming for low student academic performance. When a parent dares to speak out against what the parent believes are harmful policies or practices in the school, does that parent and that parent's child get targeted for retaliation by school officials. Bogan High School LSC Parent Leader Reva Brown shares her story and raises questions about the rights of parents to stand up to school officials when they believe their children are being deliberately denied a good education.
It pays to Start Investing Early
Time can be the best friend of growth. But most people don’t have $1,000 to deposit all at once. They must depend on smaller amounts, invested on a schedule, to build wealth. If that’s your situation, consistency can be the fuel that makes your investment grow exponentially.
That’s why time is so critical. When you’re young, you can save small amounts and still end up with thousands of dollars. If you wait to begin saving, you must save much more. If you want to be financially independent, you have no choice – you must start now, or later you must save more. One thing is certain: you can’t afford the high cost of waiting.
Let’s get started: Get your e-copy of How Money Works: The Common Sense Guide to Financial Success. You’ll fall in love with this book and never have a major money question again.
