    Waste Management Programs

    in Current Events

We have to returning guests this morning, that we had a great conversation with back in February, Janine Hammer and Angelica Dulce of Waste Management.

Janine brings over 20 years of experience in government affairs, community relations, environmental sustainability, and customer focused service to Waste Management.  After attending NYU, Janine got her start working for non-profit organizations including Neighbor to Neighbor and Global Green where she served as the Development Director and the Coalition for Clean Air where she served as Chief Operating Officer.

Angelica Dulce graduated from California State University Long Beach in 2012 with a Major in Environmental Science & Policy. She interned with the City of Long Beach Office of Sustainability and was in charge of the Green Business Recognition Program that awards businesses for their green efforts. In 2013, Angelica worked for the nonprofit group Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, where her focus was the Clean Air Clean Trucks campaign at the Port of Long Beach. She was the liaison between the community, city officials and over 10 other non-profits to promote and publicize the environmental impacts of pollution in the harbor community.

Today it’s all about reusing, recycling, reclaiming, repurposing and environmental responsibility and this morning we’re going to hear about Waste Management’s latest programs that are about to go into effect in Manhattan Beach.

    Composting and Hay Bale Gardening

    in Politics Conservative

One of the secrets to a great garden is what you feed it. You control the garden's diet and what you get out of it is directly related to what you put into it. Composting is going to be a key ingredient to feeding your garden, keeping the soil alive and healthy, and making sure you are reusing the stuff that is coing out of the home rather than adding it to the refuse mountains growing around the nation.

We will also discuss "Hay Bale Gardening". This is the method of using bales of straw as containers to hold and grow your plants. When I first heard about this, I thought it was just kind of a lazy urban thing that was trending, but as I continue to study and learn about it, I find it is a really great way to add to your gardening skills for a good many reasons.

We always want to have you share your gardening, or any other skills oyu have, with the listeners. You can do this by calling in to 347-308-8790 and speaking with the call screener.

    Hope to see you there!

" GOD MADE EVERY LIVING THING KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHO'S YOU ARE "

    in The Bible

" IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH." GENESIS 1:1

" FOR BY HIM ALL THINGS WERE CREATED THAT ARE IN HEAVEN AND THAT ARE ON EARTH." COLOSSIANS 1:16.

    GENESIS 1:27
    GENESIS2;27
    JEREMIAH 32:27
    ISAIAH 43:1-3

THIS TRUTH SHOULD CLEAR UP THE BIG BANG THEORY AND ANY OTHER DOUBTS ABOUT HOW WE GOT HERE AND IF GOD IS REAL.

WATER IS CLEAR, COLORLESS AND ODORLESS, YET NO LIVING THING CAN LIVE WITHOUT IT, THERE IS A GOD.

THE EARTH AND IT'S SIZE IS PERFECT, IT SPINS ON IT'S AXIS THAT WE ARE WARMED AND COOLED DAILY,  ONLY BY THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD ALONE.

97% OF OUR WATER COMES FROM OCEANS. THIS EARTH HAS A SYSTEM DESIGNED TO REMOVE THE SALT, THEN DISTRIBUTE THE WATER THROUGHT THE GLOBE, PURIFYING AND SUPPLYING, RECYCLING AND REUSING IT TO SUSTAIN LIFE ON THIS PLANET. NOT BY BIG BANG, BUT BY THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD IS EXISTANCE FORMED, SPOKEN, HELD IN PLACE AND STILL OBEDIANT!!! BELIEVE GOD AND LIVE!!!

THERE IS A HIGHER POWER; THE FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY GHOST.  NO, WE DIDN'T COME FROM APES. GOD MADE MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE. GENESIS 1:26. WITH THAT BEING SAID, KNOW THAT WE MUST ANSWER TO HIM IN ALL THINGS.

Recap - Trish McCully of Recycle That

    in Women

Trish has spent a lifetime around the development, internal operations and ever-changing dynamics of the thrift store industry; learning much about the business from her grandfather, Walter D “Bud” Ellison, who was instrumental in launching the ARC Thrift Stores in Colorado in the 1960’s.   Trish began working directly in the thrift store and secondary material recycling industry in 1996.

Patricia launched Snow Lion Inc., one of the first e-commerce used book businesses, in 2003.  Just four years later, she founded Cycla, LLC, thrift recycling professionals, to address the recycling needs of thrift and consignments store owners, commercial laundries, textile clothing manufactures, and most recently the county prison systems.

While her businesses were environmentally impactful, Trish was missing the local community connection and charitable component she grew up with in her family’s businesses.  So, in 2011 she started Recycle That, LLC, to combine textile material collection with the opportunity to raise funds and give back to local non-profit organizations.

Recycle That connects communities to recycling by reusing and repurposing its goods.  The company forms community partnerships with non-profit organizations to create a sustainable funding source to support their causes.  Via donation centers, collection box programs and special events, Recycle That enables its charitable partners to collect used textiles as a means of fundraising.  Current partners include, Habitat for Humanity Restores, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Hospice of Saint John, American Heart Walk, and local faith based communities.

Climate Change, WE Can Solve It

    in Music

Our special guest this week is award winning author Lillian Brummet. She produces and hosts the Conscious Discussions talk radio show and manages the Brummet’s Conscious Blog. She will be teaching us about sustainably harvested xmas trees, reusing wrapping and ribbon decorations, craft presents, gardening and much more…
Coming to you live from Costa Rica and brought to you by the La Reserva Forest Foundation (LRFF). We invite you to participate in this most interesting and interactive show by calling in or participating in the "green" chat room. LRFF is working to solve climate change and lost resources by restoring the tropical forests in the "lungs of the world".
Climate change is our continuing topic. It's being caused by human activity not volcanoes, solar activity or a universal conspiracy. This is a platform for everyone to tell us your views on cc, ask questions about this most important issue. The majority of people are very uninformed about cc because it has become unmentionable in the mainstream media.  Talking about it is the first step to solving it.
As always great roots and culture music plus interesting Caribbean news and events.
