    Rethinking Rudolph

    in Pop Culture

Author and Professional Mentor, Ken Rabow is our guest on today's show.

One of Rabow's clients, an aspiring author, shared his sentiments about the famous Christmas story, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and said he wanted to write about it.

Rabow was impressed. After sharing the young man's draft article with his wife, Rabow took it to the Huffington Post, where he is a reglar contributor.

The article, entitled What Message Is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Sending Our Kids, explores the young man's perspective.

From the article: When my mom and me first watched Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, we had a very different view of it than most people. As being one of the people on the autistic spectrum, some things that others find enjoyable I see in a very negative way. However, certain things that are perceived unpleasant to some, are the very same things that I see the beauty and genius of.

Is the young man sayng he dislikes Rudolph? What part of the story is problematic? Should everyone rethink this favorite Christmas tale? After today's show you won't see Rudolp's story the same way.

The Legal Show Mercy Killing or Murder for Convenience? Part 2

    in Legal

Attorney Sarah Steele and writer Bennet Pomerantz discuss the subjects of the day.

The audience should know that although Ms. Steele is a licensed attorney, she is not offering legal advice in any capacity, is not establishing an attorney/client relationship with anyone listening to the show, and recommends that any listener of the show consult a local attorney for any legal advice they may require.

This show is about us discussing hot topics and how they relate to the law.

Continuing from last week, the hosts conclude their two part series on the controversial topic of mercy killings.  Tonight the hosts ask “sometimes isn’t a cigar just a cigar?” when they look at the case of Barbara Mancini.  Ms. Mancini, 57, of Philadelphia, was charged last summer with giving a nearly full bottle of morphine to her father, Joseph Yourshaw, at his Pottsville home in February 2013 for the purpose of helping him end his life. Yourshaw died at a hospital four days later after a hospice nurse called 911. The judge said that prosecutors had neither established that Yourshaw intended to take his own life, nor that Mancini helped him do it.  Join Bennet and Sarah as they conclude their series on so-called “mercy killings” and how they relate to the law.

Step Three, Decision Making for Rummy's

    in Spirituality

In the first step, we overcame our denial and accepted our powerlessness and unmanageability over our lives and over alcohol .We surrendered to win.

In step two, we came to believe that a power greater than ourselves was the solution, that it could restore us to sanity. In Step Three, we discover how to make use of that power by turning our will and our lives over to the care of that power.

Step three in essence is: I can’t, God can, I think I’ll let God.

The Twelve and Twelve states: The effectiveness of the whole A.A. program will rest upon how well and earnestly we have tried to come to a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him. Step Three has to be determined and persistent to be effective. In A.A., we all have had to come up with a higher power, for some just slightly higher and for some,  the God of their fathers.

For most of us the only time we thought about God was only in an emergency, the God of 911.
