SUICIDE: WHAT ABOUT THOSE LEFT BEHIND?
We’ve all known a friend of a friend, or a family member, or even a celebrity who shocked and dumbfounded us because of his or her suicide. Your children may have school friends who have contemplated or carried out a suicide. Maybe a relative left you wondering for the rest of your life what you could have done. Perhaps you have had thoughts of killing yourself. Not a happy topic, for sure, but one which can affect all of us.
September is suicide awareness month, so this is a perfect time to discuss this topic and find out more about the whys and guilt that can accompany it.
Dr. Jill Harkavy-Friedman is responsible for research for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This includes gathering data from AFSP funded studies and communicating those findings to the larger community and public. She also collaborates on the development of prevention materials such as films, programs and brochures.
Dr. Harkavy-Friedman received her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Florida. In 1984 she joined Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute, first as an assistant professor and later an associate professor of clinical psychology in psychiatry.
She has been studying suicidal behavior for more than 25 years and has more than 90 publications. As a licensed psychologist, she maintains a clinical practice at her office in Manhattan.

Mud Toe Sasquatch has been a researcher, a materials scientist, a product developer, a quality assurance manager, a schoolteacher, a house painter, a salesman, and amateur actor and director, and a videographer. No matter what avocation he tried, Mud Toe found himself plagued by a persistent sense of spiritual emptiness and an inescapable feeling that human society was fundamentally flawed. He has struggled with substance abuse and self-destructive behavior since he was a teenager.
Four years ago, Mud Toe embarked on a spiritual journey working the Twelve Steps of recovery. Today, he is a PhD student at a well known Major University in the Midwest. He has also accepted a call to become a Healer of Society in the Nemenhah Native American tradition, which he has joined through spiritual adoption. He writes and speaks about his experiences in addiction and recovery, and publishes his words so they might reach those who need them. He maintains a Facebook page of his writings, and now will be sharing his thoughts on a weekly radio program on Withinsights radio called "Mud Toe at Midnight."
Mud Toe is not your average, everyday shaman. For him, it's not all "Love and Light." He is not afraid to access and embrace the darker elements of his experience. His intention is to be fully honest with his readers and his audience. He paints vivid pictures, and they're not always pretty.
Join Mud Toe every Friday at Midnight for a different kind of spiritual program.

The subject of animal abuse is never a pleasant topic, but is one that none-the-less, needs to be addressed. There seems to be more and more news stories about innocent animals being abused, hurt, or killed at the hands of humans. What can we do to stop this awful behavior? Who typically commits these crimes? Youths or adults? Why do these crimes occur? What are some of the less obvious signs that an animal may be being subject to abuse? Join hosts J and D as they explore this topic in an effort to spare all animals from the devastating effects of animal cruelty. Saturday, September 20th, 5PM, CT.
World Footprints is excited to share one of our new favorite cities --Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (despite our football rivalries). When most people who have never visited Pittsburgh think of the city, they may envision an industrial city filled with tall smoke stakes. In reality, Pittsburgh is a vibrant, colorful, modern and pristine city that is very welcoming.
The three rivers that meet at a point creates a flowing calming energy and provided the inspiration for Dutch artist Florentjn Hofman to select the city as her North American debut of his giant rubber duck. Today, we will give you a glimpse into this remarkable city as we explore Pittsburgh's rich history through attractions like the Senator John Heinz History Center, we'll walk through the streets of The Hill Districk and we'll relive Pittsburgh's industrial past as we tour the Carrie Blast Furnaces.
In early April, 52 year old Steve Utash suffered a brutal beating at the hand of as many as 11 or more people, after he stopped to help an 10 year old boy that darted out into traffic and was struck by his truck. The 10 year old suffered a broken foot, needed a few stitches and is expected to make a full recovery. Mr. Utash was hospitalized for more than six weeks, part of which time was spent in critical condition and being placed into a medically induced coma for 10 days. Currently, Mr. Utash still suffers from brain injuries that prevent him from driving to work or make financial decisions on his own. So far, five suspects have been convicted for their part in the beating. One of the assailants, 19 year old Latrez Cummings, stated that not having a father present in his life was a major factor contributing to his bad decision making skills. The Judge’s response, “…someone to discipline you. Someone to beat the hell out of you when you made a mistake, as opposed to allowing you or encouraging you to do it to somebody else.” led to a heated exchange with the assistant prosecutor. She argued that there are numerous households headed by single mothers with young black male children and not having a father present is no excuse for this type of behavior. The exchange between the judge and assistant prosecutor raises the question. Does having a father present make a difference in a young man’s life or is there more to it than just having a daddy that will “beat the hell out you when you make a mistake?” Join us, as we search the Holy Bible for answers to this question and more.
We air programs on Blog Talk Radio at the following times: Sun 2:00pm, Mon 8:00pm, Tue 8:00pm, Wed 7:00pm, Thur 8:00pm, Fri 7:00pm & Sat 9:00am. All times are Eastern Standard Time.
Greg "Dj Sqwyd" Doss and Former Mike Vaughn discuss various Sports Related Topics! This is a Sports Show for people who aren't afraid to voice their opinions about Sports!!! Greg and Mike are on every Friday at 3pm EST / 12pm PST! The Callin Number for the Greg and Mike show is 347-838-8420! Or, go to www.gregdoss.com!
About Mike Vaughn:
As a sophomore in 1996, Vaughn appeared in 12 games with 39 receptions for a team-high 702 yards and six touchdowns. His best game of the regular season was 142 receiving yards against Florida. But his greatest Crimson Tide moment occurred in the SEC Championship Game, also against Florida.
With the ball at their own 6-yard line, quarterback Freddie Kitchens dropped back into his own end zone. He then threw along the sidelines to Vaughn, who had broken away from the Florida secondary. Vaughn caught the pass at his own 47-yard line and out ran the Florida defense for the touchdown.
The 94-yard touchdown reception is still a school record for the longest scoring pass play. Vaughn's efforts were not enough as the Gators outscored the Crimson Tide, 45-30.

The Body of Christ is speaking out loud and proud against recent, very public incidents among players and perceived cover-ups among the NFL. Arrests, jail time, and firings have been demanded among other punitive options. And yet, churches today are full of people who refuse to demand the same for their pastor, pastor's colleague, or other church leader's delinquent behavior. On fist-fight Friday, we want to examine how many pastors are still in office with no suspension, no firing, and no restitution for similar or other corrupted behaviors affecting many. Why the double-standard? LETS TALK ABOUT IT ON FIST FIGHT FRIDAY, 12 NOON EASTERN!!!
