Dianne Barker was born with a silver pen in her hand, so to speak. She landed her dream job at 18, writing for the local newspaper while attending college, and wrote her first book at 24. In 1986 her book Twice Pardoned was # 1 on the national Christian best-sellers list. Then her life took an unexpected turn, taking her out of the publishing loop for over 15 years. Today she will share her story—her early success, her long stay in Overwhelm City (she calls this period the “Shrunken Life”) and how she reinvented herself to make a comeback. You don’t want to miss this story!
Dianne Barker is a conference speaker, freelance journalist, radio host, and author of eleven books including the 1986 best-seller Twice Pardoned (life of Harold Morris and first book for Focus on the Family Publishing).
Her new book, I Don’t Chase the Garbage Truck Down the Street in My Bathrobe Anymore! Organizing for the Maximum Life, gives practical strategies to organize space, time, and family chaos while encouraging personal renovation—purging interior garbage (inferiority, low esteem), and submitting fully to Christ, gateway to balance and abundant living.
A graduate of East Tennessee State University, Dianne hosts a weekly program on the Christian station WHCB Radio, Bristol, Tennessee, 91.5 FM, “At the Library” on Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. www.whcbradio.org. We all love to talk about love, and we likely always will because so much of it is mysterious. From the partners we choose, to why we leave or stay, to how a relationship’s dynamics are always changing, nothing hurts or heals so much.
The notions that passion always peters out, that there’s a “seven-year itch,” and that the honeymoon is over as soon reality sets in have some truth to them. But our CHI FOR YOURSELF GUEST promises that long-term, wholehearted love is still possible!

“Constructive wallowing” seems like an oxymoron. Constructive is a good thing, but wallowing is bad. Right?
But wait a minute; is it really so terrible to give ourselves a time-out to feel our feelings? Or is it possible that wallowing is an act of loving kindness, right when we need it most?
Our Chi For Yourself guest turns the conventional wisdom on its head. Tina Gilbertson is a successful therapist, workshop leader and blogger. She's the author of Constructive Wallowing: How to Beat Bad Feelings By Letting Yourself Have Them.

One of your biggest competitive advantages is knowing yourself. The more you are able to understand yourself, the better equipped you are to deal with issues and problems on a daily basis, especially those that take you out of your comfort zone. Self-knowledge allows you to change any of your own inhibiting actions and unleash your creative abilities.
Personal growth can be difficult. it requires us to evaluate where we are and whether or not things are working in our lives. If they aren't working, we need to change. And, managing change can be stressful whether we instigated it or it has been created by an external force. Being cognizant of this and strategically planning the change for personal growth are both critical factors to a successful outcome.
Most human beings are uncomfortable with uncertainty. They resist change. They insist on doing things the old way. When this happens, it can produce stagnation and limit growth. People often resist anything that requires effort. Given the choice of doing something that requires little effort or doing something that is difficult, most people opt for the easy.
What about you? Do you make the practice of self-evaluation a habit? It's surprising that only a small percentage of people actually self-evaluate. You can greatly improve your effectiveness when you know yourself. Have you changed? Are you trying to be the way you've always been? Or, are you looking for new and different ways to do things.
Join Choices host, Judi Moreo, author of You Are More Than Enough, as she explores ways you can get to know yourself better and things you can do to make your life even better than it already is.
