The boxing history podcast is back!
Once more Compubox operator and fight historian Aris Pina joins Patrick Connor of The Fight City to talk boxing and it's long, convoluted and wonderful history. This week on the show, Aris and Patrick discuss the happenings of fights that happened during or around the second week of October in history.
From Tommy Sullivan vs Abe Attell for the featherweight title in 1904; to Henry Armstrong vs Al Manfredo for the welterweight title in 1939; to Alexis Arguello's defense of a featherweight belt over Royal Kobayashi in 1975; and back to Sam Langford vs Sam McVey V (one of their 15 fights total) for the "negro" heavyweight title in 1912... There is no era that's off limits.

Cancer is a disease in which cells in the body grow out of control. When cancer starts in the breast, it is called breast cancer. Except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women. Breast cancer screening means checking a woman’s breasts for cancer before she has any symptoms.. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms. Most women who are 50 to 74 years old should have a screening mammogram every two years. If you are 40 to 49years old, or think you may have a higher risk of breast cancer, ask your doctor when to have a screening mammogram. Some things may increase your risk. If you have risk factors, you may be more likely to get breast cancer.
Reproductive risk factors
• Being younger when you had your first menstrual period.
• Never giving birth, or being older at the birth of your first child.
• Starting menopause at a later age.• Using hormone replacement therapy for a long time.
Other risk factors
• Getting older.
• A personal history of breast cancer, dense breasts, or some other
• A family history of breast cancer (parent, sibling, or child).
• Changes in your breast cancer-related genes (BRCA1 or BRCA2).
• Getting radiation therapy to the breast or chest.
• Being overweight, especially after menopause.
Can’t afford a mammogram?
If you have a low income or do not haveinsurance and are between the ages of
40 and 64, you may qualify for a free or
low-cost mammogram through CDC’s
National Breast and Cervical Cancer

I wanted to begin services today by making an opening prayer and reading from the book of Isaiah, chapter 25: verses 1-5 so please vow you heads and close you eyes!
And now I want to make the following ANOUNCEMENTS:
It looks like God has been intervening in my "unfortunate" predicament of being bitten by a rabid raccoon the other day, I was worried cause I felt some burning and tingling but so far I seem to be OK! So please continue to pray fo me for a full and prompt recovery!
In WORLD EVENTS: I was reading a story about one of the old Russian states that was a part of the SOVIET UNION during the cold war has a problem with shady characters who are trying to sell "radioactive" material and components to ISIS simply because they want to see AMERICA destroyed and they still hold a grudge against modern day Israel! This is very "interesting" because I saw a long time ago a special show on the HISTORY channel were the CIA, the FBI and even the Secret Service and Homeland Security were aware that next terrorist attack on US soil coming fom all islamic fundamentalists and terror groups would be NUCLEAR! By creating "home-made" bombs to be detonated in ALL major US BIG CITIES! So this is really serious brethren and this kind of threat is becoming more plausable and REAL!
My friends and brethren NOT ONLY will this take place but it was encoded in THE BIBLE that WORLD WAR 3 would take place in 2016 and it would be a NUCLEAR WAR! Let's turn with me to the book of Isaiah the 24th chapter and let's read what it says there!
Tomorrow (Friday, November 8, 2015), we will redo history, as Muslims from across the nation, will converge with dignity and peace, upon Washington D.C., for the Friday, Ju'mah service, aptly titled, Islam on Capitol Hill.
The keynote and organizer, Imam Abdul-Malik, by Allah's Grace and Mercy, has had the insight to organize this event, to proclaim the worship of Our Lord, and to state to the world, that neither Al-Islam or Muslims, are inherent enemies to this or any other country on earth.
As we understand the commonality of faith and purpose, which is shared by adherents of the Torah and Gospel, much can and will be done, towards strengthening the moral fiber of society at liege.
Then, on Saturday, October 10th, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March, we will be there for Justice or Else ..., which by the very theme, speaks to what many have argued, has been a denial of justice, in light of the well-publicized killings of black people, by law enforcement or otherwise.
The cry is real; just as the cry of those mothers and fathers, who have lost their precious children, to the ever-expanding abyss, known as "the streets".
As a heads-up, we may air a special edition of Critical Discourse, tomorrow afternoon, after the Ju'mah service.

From the bestselling author of The Vampire Next Door: The True Story of The Vampire Rapist, John Crutchley. J.T. Hunter tells the story of a friendly, baby-faced, Canadian boy next door. He came from a loving, caring, and well-respected family. Blessed with good looks and back-woods country charm, he was popular with his peers, and although an accident at birth left permanent nerve damage in one of his arms, he excelled in sports. A self-proclaimed “die hard” Calgary Flames fan, he played competitive junior hockey and competed on his school’s snowboarding team. And he enjoyed the typical simple pleasures of a boy growing up in the country: camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. But he also enjoyed brutally murdering women, and he would become one of the youngest serial killers in Canadian history. THE COUNTRY BOY KILLER-J.T. Hunter

America’s Next Top Model contestant Nyle DiMarco made history as the first deaf contestant in the show’s 22 cycles, and now he’s made ANTM history again by coming out as sexually “fluid.”
ANTM fan Kike Garces Tweeted at DiMarco, 25, asking, “Nyle you have so much gays fans! Tell us, boys or girls?” to which he replied “fluid,” along with a link to an Everyday Feminism article entitled, “How Fluid Sexuality Fits into the LGBTQIA+ Spectrum.”
Aside from giving visibility to alternative sexualities (score!), here’s a photo-list of why the news makes us so, shall we say, excited

William von Holst holds a Masters of Arts in Art History and Philosophy from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign and was granted a scholarship from the University of Chicago, Doctor of Philosophy Divinity School, but turned it down. Instead, William chose to seek wisdom from alternative sources. He has attended workshops from many teachers including Elisabeth Claire Prophet and Ram Das. William met Imre Vallyon in 1986 who has been his exclusive teacher ever since. Over the last 24 years, William has been on over forty month long retreats with Imre all over the world including New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Canada and America. William has conducted many sessions on these retreats as well as teaching classes in Chicago, San Diego and the Bay Area. He has helped in the publishing of Imre Vallyon's material as well. The true spiritual path is participating in an energy field, this is what Imre speaks about in his books and what he radiates on retreats. William has had the good fortune to experience this energy field.
Yeah so we are doing a social studies unit on our ancestors. We’ve done some version of this for as long as I can remember…more than 15 years? The students are asked to talk to family, interview relatives, make a family tree, and identify one of their countries of origin. (You know…not the U.S.A. unless they are indeed a Native People of this country)
Ok. So, our units are language rich and it’s my job to come up with some of the daily vocabulary. There I was picking words: ancestor, traditions, relationship, immigrant…hmm…immigrant…
So, all of a sudden I am thinking…for the FIRST TIME …because white privilege…SLAVERY.
I have had Black students. None this year, but usually I have a child with ancestry that very very likely includes slavery. And it’s never occurred to me to deal with this. Sigh. Well, there it is. And here we are.
I was debating whether to enter this word into the Google doc all the other teachers at my grade level will access. I was thinking they won’t like it. They will object. They’ll question my judgement. They’ll think it’s inappropriate. I was afraid. This is uncomfortable.
Now, I am of the mind that when something bothers me, it’s time to act. It means I know the right thing to do and I’m afraid.
Right then, one said colleague walks in and we talk. We are much more like-minded. I tell him about it. He affirms its validity. This helps. I decide. I do it. SLAVERY is one of our words. It is right between immigration, emigrate, migration, and refugee. Even if the other teachers might not utilize it, I will. It needs to be discussed outside the context of Black History. This is family history. This is the history of my students. Even if they aren’t Black…
