TimetoPlay.com's Empower Half Hour: BUSINESS PREPAREDNESS

    in Motivation

Our goal for this podcast is to create discussion and resources for business owners to work together to find best practices and take a proactive approach to making business success.

History repeats itself -- if we let it.  How many times have you heard "businesses fail within the first 3 years"?  Many businesses fail within the first couple of years (or months), because issues like these have not been addressed:

          A.   How well do you know the business/product/service that you plan to provide?

          B.   How much experience do you have (have you worked in that business before)?

          C.   How much money is required for initial investment and reinvestment in the coming years?

          D.   What will be your source of income for the next 3 years (do not expect to draw a salary during that time)?

Join our discussion!  Let's make a business success!

During Empower Half Hour we'll talk about proactive things each of us can easily do to make our businesses, and -- in general -- every day better.  We'll motivate and empower ourselves and each other. The whole idea in this podcast is people helping people and collaboration equals success. We're all in this together!

Empower Half Hour is made possible by the Time to Play Foundation, Inc., a not for profit 501c3 corporation with the mission and purpose to enrich the lives of others through programs, public awareness outreach activities, events and learning opportunities that further the concept of enjoying life. MARIA G HERNANDEZ, Ph.D., Consultant

    in Business

I am a first generation Latina born and raised in California.  My early life was based in Southern California where my immigrant parents raised me and my two older brothers.  During the first six years of my life my family lived in East Los Angeles, Watts, Pasadena and Temple City where our family home remains to this day. My family could afford to live in the suburbs of Los Angeles because  my father came to the US as a skilled machinist and the 1960's still enjoyed a robust manufacturing economy based inside our borders.  Unlike the neighborhoods just 15 miles away from our home, Temple City enjoyed safe streets, strong schools, and access to good jobs.

Graduate of California State University Long Beach and the University of Texas where I received degrees in psychology (BA with Distinction) and community psychology(PhD), respectively.  I finished my doctorate at age 26 in 1985 and took my first academic post as the Assistant Dean for Special Programs at a small liberal arts college in Northern California in 1986.  Four years after joining the campus, I became familiar with the painful experience of "hitting the glass ceiling".  It is one of the loudest thuds a woman might never hear.  I felt fortunate to recognize the politicized nature of my work and left the academic experience in 1994 to become an entrepreneur. I started consulting in the field of diversity and inclusion.  As a consultant and entrepreneur, I found enormous freedom to build my knowledge, leverage it to empower and engage others in the hard work that change requires.

Since 1994 I have worked with over 150 organizations in the public, private and nonprofit sectors on topics, change management, executive development and strategic planning.

Full Sport Press: Disappointing College Football Teams/Program of BCS Era- 10/5

    in Sports

Determining the biggest college football flops of the past 10 years took a lot of nitpicking, and the criteria could be different from person to person. Every year in college football there are one or two teams who dramatically underachieve. For some supporters, it’s been a frustrating 21st century. Fans often have to endure a number of disappointing campaigns in a row – even if they root for an all-time great football school. Things like coaching changes, NCAA violations and poorly-timed losses can set a program back for years. A number of programs that were once national powers have fallen back to the middle of the pack – or worse. Join @JaiHov , @Lock_Tha_Great and the producer of the show @Howezzy26 as they discuss the hottest sports news of the past week and analyze the most underacheiving college football teams of the BCS Era and the most disappointing college programs in the last 10 years.
