Redefining Philanthropy: Liberating African Infants from Mortality with the Children’s Prize Million Dollar Initiative
The multi-dimensional effect of lack of development and poverty on Africa and Africans engulfs not only adults in terms of economic depravity, or the youth who make up the bulk of the African population through faded possibilities of realizing their life ambitions, but also, very importantly, and under-discussed, is the prevalence of these effects on young infants through child mortality.
Infant mortality around the world is indeed a cause for concern, but more critical is the preventable level of infant mortality in sub-Saharan Africa which boasts of about half of the global child mortality rate estimated at 6.9 million children less than five years in 2011 alone.
However, in light of these concerns, an attempt to ensure a continuous generation of future leaders for the African continent and beyond - the Children’s Prize under the leadership of Dr. Ted Caplow - is initiating a different way to give beyond the conventional mode of philanthropy by funding the best solutions to Child Mortality through a million dollar fund.
The Children’s Prize is committed to saving lives of Children under five (5) years and has put forward a competitive platform for the submission of ideas aimed at reducing to the barest minimum, the rate of child mortality through a million dollar fund.

MADLYN BIO: In 2010, I had my first song "Suddenly" placed in the indie film "Elena Undone," a movie I also played a supporting character in. I've also been blessed to have other artistic opportunities including writing songs for other artists such as European pop star Suzanna Lubrano, recording title tracks for films like the indie movie "Wheels," appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! singing background vocals for bands like Youngblood Hawke, and recording vocals for bands, most recently for latest Thirty Seconds to Mars album, "LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS." I've also been able to co-write with some pretty amazing peeps, including the legendary Billy Steinberg and Ken Hirsch. I love to perform live, and do so as often as possible at various venues throughout the US, both as a solo vocal/piano performer, as well as with my other awesome band members.

The generosity and philanthropy of Helene Galen has helped to sustain many a nonprofit organization in our desert communities, including Desert AIDS Project. Although one of the ways she’s supported D.A.P. is through her long-standing sponsorship of one of the awards given at the annual Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, on February 7th, it was Ms. Galen receiving the 100 Women Award for 2015.
Nicholas Snow (with guest co-host Kristin Johnson) is thrilled to present a seven-part comprehensive series documenting the 2015 Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards held February 9th at the Palm Springs Convention Center, raising $1.3 million for direct client services at Desert AIDS Project. Special thanks to the gala producer Momentous Events for helping us secure the audio.
