Texas Congressman Refuses to Be Kept Away From Border Patrol Facility and Has a Message for Obama
McALLEN, Texas — While reporters were kept from entering the McAllen Border Patrol station on Saturday where roughly 1,000 illegal immigrants — mainly children — were being held, a local Texas congressman made clear he wasn’t going to be kept out, and spent several hours talking to the children and Border Patrol agents inside.
Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, told TheBlaze he wanted to see for himself the difficult conditions the Border Patrol agents are dealing with concerning the large migration of people from Central America to the U.S. over the past eight months. He also wanted to check on the condition of the children being temporarily housed in the overcrowded facility in the Rio Grande Valley border sector.“I’ve been saying, ‘Use the nonprofits, use the churches don’t just use the taxpayers’ dollars to take care of these young kids,’” Cuellar said. “[President Barack Obama] still has a long way to go to improve this. Don’t just listen to the words of the bureaucrats up there in Washington, listen to the men and women that work here. The men and women of the Border Patrol know what’s going on here.”Another facility is expected to open July 11 to process the children who are now being held with adults at the McAllen station. In the past several weeks, the U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency and the national service program AmeriCorps have sent specialists to help take care of the children’s needs and to alleviate some of the strain on the overworked agents..

This week we meet Diane Jones from Guardian Angels Cat Rescue and Peaches the Cat.
Guardian Angels Cat Rescue & Adoption Shelter is an all volunteer organization operating a no kill facility for homeless felines. The Shelter operates with an upper limit of 136 resident felines onsite, and some in the care of foster homes depending upon the season. All cats that enter the Shelter are assessed by a veterinarian and once tested and cleared for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus or other diseases are available for adoption.
Peaches the Wonder Cat was born in July 2013 and was dumped at a kill shelter when she was only 4 weeks old. It was soon discovered that she was dying from a diaphragmatic hernia....probably from being thrown or kicked... Luckily a wonderful vet was able to do emergency surgery and she survived, despite the odds, and made a full recovery. Her growth, however, was stunted because she was unable to absorb nutrients in the first few months of her life so she is very tiny.

ENVISION THIS: Combining the best practices from history and around the world to create a modern, rural micropolis in Central Maine, USA
Our guest, Tracy Gayton of Dover Foxcroft, Maine, envisions The Piscataquis Village Project as such a settlement “evolving organically and growing incrementally” and, so far, he has raised over 1/5 of the $2 million required funds to get it started.
The Piscataquis Village Project “was founded to establish the first compact, car free village in the United States...Though our project will not construct buildings, we will draft the street plan and simple design code, based on the best of traditional practices, that will guide the build-out of the site. Attached, durable and fire resistant buildings, no taller than a walkable height, will front on narrow streets, with continuous arcaded sidewalks offering shelter for the elderly and mobility challenged. Buildings will be arranged to create plazas, serving as markets and democratic meeting places for all classes of people, and will surround interior courtyards for more private space. All destinations will be within convenient walking distance, with vehicles garaged at the village perimeter. 375 acres of garden space, sufficiently sized for each household to raise a significant amount of food, will encompass the developed zone…The green belt, other than the area designated for vehicle parking, would also be a zone for allotment gardens, small scale agriculture, playing fields, outdoor recreation and park-like green space.
Is the Piscataquis Village Project a promising way to combine the resilient, equitable, and Earth-friendly qualities essential for a sustainable future with the best of rural and village lifestyles of the past? Let’s question and listen to its planner, Tracy Gayton, to find out.

It was during her junior year at Virginia Tech, that Richmond, VA native, Dr. Thea Green, explored her interest in psychology and decided to change her major. Her passions for addressing the needs of women and people of color led her to pursue additional studies in Women’s Studies and Black Studies. After realizing that she had a passion for psychology and helping others, and after receiving insight and guidance from Tech’s Psychology department, she decided to pursue a Masters in Counseling Education degree at Michigan State University.
While pursuing her Master’s degree, Dr. Green worked at a local treatment facility that provided individual, group, family, and intensive outpatient care to individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse/chemical dependency issues. Again, Dr. Green decided that she wanted to further her education to ensure that she would become as highly skilled and proficient as possible in the mental health field to provide exceptional services to those who sought her counsel. She chose to pursue a Pastoral Counseling PhD from Loyola University Maryland.
On November 8, 2012, Dr. Thea Green successfully defending her dissertation and went on to graduate from Loyola University in May 2013. Montgomery Granger author of Saving Grace at Guantanamo Bay and Retired Major is my guest. Montgomery J. Granger was assigned as a medical service officer responsible for the care and treatment of detainees in both Iraq and in Guantanamo Bay. The Major will discuss the future of Guantanamo, currently in the news; he believes the time has come for Gitmo trials to take place, and for it to remain a detention facility. Granger is a three-time mobilized U.S. Army Reserve Major (Ret.) who wrote the book Saving Grace at Guantanamo Bay: A Memoir of a Citizen Warrior about his time at Gitmo.
President Obama has just signed an executive order creating a formal system to indefinitely detain prisoners without trial at the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In addition, the White House said it will resume new military commission trials at the base. The announcements mark the latest sign that the military prison will not be closed.
Lawrence Korb, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, stated, “Basically it means that Guantanamo Bay is going to be open for as far as we can see, because if in fact you can transfer the prisoners, you do try them, then you’ll have to put them some place if you convict them.”
Granger said the Geneva Conventions and Law of Land Warfare do not require prosecution of detainees, as they may simply be held “until the end of hostilities.” They are not entitled to habeas corpus, and now, after Obama's announcement, if any of the unlawful combatant detainees are also facing war crimes, military commissions may be used.”
