A provocative, ambitious, and engaging producer, Adryenn Ashley has
taken the independent film community by storm with groundbreaking
documentary and feature projects. She has never been shy about
tackling a hard subject or a controversial fire storm.
When Ashley's early acting career was cut short by an injury, the
tenacious Northern Californian stayed in the game seeking original
independent projects to produce. Her first feature, Metal, was shot
in just 8 days in the rough neighborhood of Hunter's Point, San
Francisco. Ashley's production of this gritty and dramatic portrayal
of a poor black family in turmoil went on to receive stellar reviews
and awards at festivals worldwide. It premiered, and was a critical
favorite, at the Mill Valley Film Festival, won the Jury Prize at the
Pan African Film Festival, and Best Picture at the Seattle Underground
Film Festival and continued to win prizes around the globe for 2
Her IMDB is stacked with other juicy projects and at present, Ashley
has four television shows in pre-production with her company, 21st
Century Pictures Group, and is venturing back in front of the camera
to host The F Word. She is also the founder of Crowded Reality, the
world's first crowdfunding platform for reality tv and talk shows that
gives content creators the ability to not only fan-fund their pilot,

My first guest today is the Amazingly talented Damien Escobar, a reknown Violinist, who has fused classical with hip hop, jazz and other genre's, to become one of the most sought after musicians around. Originally from Jamaica Plains, NY, he calls in to the Left of Str8 Show, mid tour, getting ready to play Mothers Day in DC this weekend.
My second guest today is a singer and songwriter from Texas, who has recently released his second record, "Royalty," and brings a fresh sound to Pop and Dance Music. Openly out and proud, this is Preston's second album and he stops by to chat about where he is going from here.
Seriously, it's difficult to find a place to begin - in trying to convey the utter surge of joy - upon hearing "Repertoire." It's a co-production: James Day, the most esteemed Soul-oriented songwriter - and U-Nam, the electrifying guitarist who is championing a new record label, Skytown. These are High Times for U and James - and that's meant in the most organic way. They're on FIRE with this music and the things to come BECAUSE of "Repertoire."
That's what this new work is called and it doesn't escape this radio host that the title is French, just like our friend, U :) Hah! But it's way more in the way of explanation. The word, repertoire, has a definition that we'll use here: a stock of skills that one habitually uses. TOTALLY James Day! This seasoned veteran has honed some MAJOR skills - his lyrical content is something that is both poetry and street, ballet and hip hop, filet mignon and grits. His words are beautiful and real and current but timeless. When he partners with those who graced this album, the emotions are palpable! Extraordinary music with a James Day lyric - and talent like Maysa, Walter Beasley and the late and truly great Gavin Christopher? Then throw in U-Nam? By now, you're salivating, right? That's because you love honest music!
Some important background on James. He moved to New York to study musical theater some years back - and he was doing SO well! But he was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, which results in vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss. To say the journey back to health was challenge-free would be a lie. But he triumphed! And James turned his attention to the studio that he had built at home while in recovery. A silver lining. James has MANY stories about those!
See you on 5/3! 2 p.m!
I'm calling this episode "The Epic Episode". Epic Monologue. Epic Guest. Epic Length. Epic!! (and no, I don't mind over-using the word Epic)
Jim Ferrin, CGCS is one of those people that I think everyone should know. I'm biased. I've known him since 1990. When we were just young guys coming up in the business. Jim has excelled. He's a great turf manager. A great people manager. A student of Golf, Agronomy and Life. He's won a ton of awards including the coveted Leo Feser award from GCSAA. He's served in just about every possible way to make our business better. We have an epic conversation. We always do. Because no one can melt my brain like Jim.
I also happened to turn on my microphone and record and Epic Rant. One of those things that I've been trying to write for years and finally the words came to me. So I pulled the starter rope and pressed record. Result, a word strimming session, a buzz cut of one of the things I think is most wrong with our business and why that thinking promotes lack of innovation.
It's a feature length episode. Epic length. But I didn't want to cut it up into little pieces. Like an epic drink, it needs to be taken in one big awesome gulp. Or a series of small drinks at your own speed. But I couldn't and wouldn't cut it up. That's just not fair.
You can reach Jim Ferrin at email@example.com
