Interview with Raphael Polk founder/president of Live 2 Give Records Inc.

    in Goals

Raphy’L has been building his knowledge and skill for music for 12 years. Making beats and instrumentals wasn’t an easy task to begin. When Raphy’L first started to compose he used the style of experimentation to learn the music he wanted to create. After years of practicing and learning he finally started to make music that attracted other artist. Music Production was very hard for Raphy’L to learn so he began to spread out his control of music to Disc Jockeying. In 2002 Raphy’L bought his first set of turntables. He stocked his shelves with vinyls that were popular in the hip-hop crowd that was at his school. He partnered up with his best friend Woody Taylor which went by the name Dj Stunna. Together they began to Dj for all of the birthday parties in their local town, Lake Mary, FL. The art of mixing music was really intriguing to Raphy’L. He was able to see the shift of energy between the crowds as the songs changed and he hyped up the party on the mic. His confidence of controlling music increased as he began to search more about producing songs.

31-On The Record: Use Your Powers for Good

    in Business

Kathleen Wirt has owned and operated the legendary 4th Street Recording studio in Santa Monica, California for twenty-seven years, and has been the sole owner since 2001. Listed by The Hollywood Reporter as one of - LA's Temples of Sound - and as one of the - Top 10 US Studios Under $100 an Hour - 4th Street features vintage analog equipment and a floating tracking room encased in sand.

In the early years, Kathleen was unwilling to allow the studio to sit empty when it was not booked, so she read the trades and frequented clubs, offering spec deals to bands that seemed promising. As 4th Street's client base grew and the studio gained in reputation, people credited not only the skills of its producers and engineers, but also Kathleen's scouting and promotion.

Twenty-seven acts have been signed to record deals through 4th Street Recording, starting with Fiona Apple, whose spec deal recording of - Shadowboxer - became the first single on her Grammy-nominated multi-platinum album -Tidal. Next came Incubus, Alien Ant Farm, and Hoobastank, all to become platinum-selling artists.  The most recent is The Neighbourhood, whose 4th Street EP led to their signing to Columbia and a double-platinum radio hit, - Sweater Weather.

Kathleen is a member of NARAS, and is the Vice President of Los Angeles Women in Music. She also works to discover and nurture production careers through 4th Street Recording's internship program, which has helped launch the careers of many young producers and engineers.

Fearless Generations 12 Steps to Freedom: Step 5 Accountable: Values

    in Self Help

As we keep a record, or become aware of our choices in some other way, we see where we are putting our time. Are we spending time on the things we say we want or elsewhere? Are we making choices that bring us closer to our goals, or are we not? Being accountable to ourselves and our dreams will keep us focused on where we want to be. Also if we are not spending our time how we want to, we are then given the opportunity to relook at what we want. Are our dreams ours or someone else's. Accountability ups our awareness and gets things really clear.

Denver proves to be Cam Newton's Kryptonite as Broncos claim Lombardi Trophy

    in Sports

The most valuable person of Super Bowl 50 may have been Wade Phillips. The Denver Broncos entered Super Bowl 50 with the number ranked unit in the NFL. The Carolina Panthers had scored 80 points in their two playoff games and had the leagues MVP running the offense. Phillips devised an aggressive game plan the pressured Newton and forced four Panther turnovers. Two Newton fumbles led to both Bronco touchdowns.

Peyton Manning came out of the gates looking like the Manning of old, leading the Broncos to an opening drive field goal. Manning completed four of six passes for 47 yards on the 10 play drive. After trading punts, the Panthers started their second drive at their own 15. On thrid down Von Miller broke the edge and instead of crushing Newton he stripped the ball. The ball was recovered in the end zone by Malik Jackson and the Broncos took a 10-0 lead. Prior to the touchdown, Newton found Jerricho Cotchery over the middle but the play was ruled incomplete after replay upheld the call.

Early in the second quarter James Stewart vaulted into the end zone from one yard out that made the score 10-7. Jordan Norwood broke a Super Bowl record with a 61-yard punt return that gave the Broncos a first down at the Carolina 14-yard line. The Panthers defense stood tall and held the Broncos to a field goal, which made the score 13-7.

Both teams added a field goal in the second half. With 4:51 remaining and the score 16-10, the Panthers took over on their own 24-yard line. Once again, Von Miller broke the edge and got his hand on the ball as Newton was cocked back and ready to throw. T.J. Ward recoverd the fumble and set the Broncos up at the Panthers 4-yard line. Josh Norman was called for holding on an incomplete third-down pass that gave the Broncos a first down at the 2-yard line. C.J Anderson bullied his way to the goal line and gave the Broncos a 22-10 lead. The ensuing two-point conversion was good.

Was The Super Bowl A Setup?

    in Podcasting

The Super Bowl invariably yields the biggest single day of gambling of the year. Last year’s game produced a record-setting $98 million in wagers, and experts expect this year’s Super Bowl XLVIII matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos to be even more lucrative for Nevada sports books.

With so much money on the line, gamblers tend to scrutinize the Super Bowl more than any other sporting event, wary of the possibility that the NFL, Vegas oddsmakers, or some other party might rig the outcome of the game to suit their own interests. Conspiracy theories began shortly after the game's creation--to this day, some fans and former players suggest that Joe Namath’s infamous Super Bowl III guarantee and the Jets’ subsequent victory over the heavily-favored Colts was rigged in order to drum up publicity ahead of the AFL-NFL merger.
