The NFC North Preview - Next Fan Up - 6/27/15

    in Football

PodVader and the SuperFans present the preseason preview of the NFC North!

Bills SuperFan applications have come in and we have a new Cardinals SuperFan.

Quick update on Tom Brady's hearing.

Jumping into the preview, Packers still the king of the division? Tom, Bears SuperFan, chimes in (after a note from Vikings SuperFan, Davey) that the Packers crown is riding solely on the health of Aaron Rodgers. Perhaps the Lions can compete for the moldy piece of cheese and be more balanced on offense according to Adam. It's a long rebuilding project for the Bears as Tom says Jay Cutler is the worst QB in the division. Watch the Vikings make the leap this year as Adrian Peterson returns with a chip on his shoulder and possibly 2000 yards.

Getting into the position comparisons, interesting how deep the QBs and RBs are in the NFC North. Pod says not only do the Packers have the best WR corps, they have the best WR in Jordy Nelson over Calvin Johnson.  Don't sleep on Alshon Jeffery.  Pod tried to gloss over the Oline, but the SuperFans keep him in check.

On Defense, lots of changes in Detroit but Adam isn't worried.  Tom says he's drinking the offseason Kool-Aid, and admits (AGAIN) that the Bears are last in the division.  Nobody other than Adam really likes their defense. Mike Zimmer is the right coach for the Vikings D.

The way too early record predictions.

Best Triplets in NFL with Matt Chatham - Next Fan Up - 6/20/15

    in Football

We take a break from our preseason division previews with a special guest, Matt Chatham!  He's an 8 year NFL veteran, playing for the Patriots and the Jets, the founder of FootballbyFootball.com and host of blogtalkradio.com/footballbyfootball.

When talking about the best triplets in the NFL (combo of QB, WR, RB) you need to look at value.  Strict production, probably start in Green Bay for Matt.  Matt ranks them Green Bay, Seattle, Pittsburgh - the Seattle conversation needs to include Jimmy Graham as a WR.

Mark brings up the question, who's next though?  Matt thinks there are RBs that are unproven but will help some teams jump into the conversation and starts with Detroit and Amir Abdullah, Tevin Coleman in Atlanta and San Diego got Melvin Gordan.

Pod goes to the Patriots and mentions that they could be a superior triplet combo without a RB.  Matt mentions Julian Edleman is a little better than he might get credit for.

In a perfect world, you double a WR and take him out of the game.  To shut down the RB, you're playing an 8 man box.  So the trio conversation is fun, because if you draw a double somewhere, the other spot can dominate.

Let's not sleep on the Bengals?  Andy Dalton isn't as bad as he gets a rap for.

Hey, how about dem Cowboys?  They believe they can be a success without Demarco Murray.  Are the Cowboys the best Oline in the NFL?

So who is the worst? Cleveland or Jacksonville?

This is the only time in the NFL that there's a break from football.  Teams are crossing their fingers and holding their breath.  Matt used to head to Colorado to take some reps in elevation to improve his cardio.

The AFC North, Best Division in Football? - Next Fan Up - 6/6/2015

    in Football

PodVader talks to the SuperFans of the AFC North as they preview the Black and Blue Division.

Another 49er retires...No fantasy for Tony Romo...Cam Newton gets a new deal...

How will that deal effect Joe Flacco's contract next year?  And the rest of the QB's in the North?

The Steelers the team to beat in the division?  If so, it's because of the offense, which is odd to say in Pittsburgh. Ravens and Bengals might have something to say about that.  If the Browns compete for the division title, it will be because of their defense.

What about the RBs?  The Bengals raise their hand first as the best in the division. Le'veon Bell is the best single back in the division.

A RB is nothing without his Oline - best in Baltimore?  Starting 5 in Cleveland is pretty good if they stay healthy.  Bengals may have some shuffling.  Steelers have some continuity on their line.

The WRs in Pittsburgh are fantastic and Antonio Brown might be the best WR in the NFL.  The Ravens have never had a true number 1 WR. Hey, why are we not talking about AJ Green with the Bengals and the rest of that WR crew?  And yes, Cleveland is last here too.

On D, Cleveland will be tough. Bengals will be improved this year.  Ravens will be fine despite the loss of Haloti Ngata.  Steelers have a bunch of changes on D including their DCoor.

    Schedule predictions.

Check out the Browns kicker, "Murder Leg".  He will help with the new longer extra point which Simon believes is a disadvantage for the all outdoor division.

Send in applications - especially Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals fans.

Next Fan Up - NFL Free Agency Week 2 - 3/21/15

    in Football

Pod Vader and the SuperFans talk about the Dallas Cowboys with Bryan Robinson, New Orleans Saints with Chase Mallet, NY Jets with Andrew Hersch and Jacksonville Jaguars with Ryan Mercier as free agency in the NFL rolls on.

Cowboys have big egos, who's going to manage them? Tony Romo wears his hat forwards now, so they have that...

Sky isn't falling in New Orleans...Chase thinks the WRs are deep.  Chase thinks that...

Jets have had a nice offseason, but is Revis big and fat with a SuperBowl ring?

Jaguars have had a nice offseason too, what are their plans for the draft?

Speaking of the NFL draft, RBs in the first round - Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon.

    Jamies Winston or Marcus Mariotta?

Phillip Rivers not renegotiating until the end of the year, the final year of his contract. But does he wear his hat forwards or backwards and does a bolo tie negate that?

TGP Radio 2015: 2015 RB Prospects (+ partial FA recap?)

    in Sports

Tonight we'll be looking at the RB prospects of the 2015 NFL Draft.  At least that's the plan.  What will probably happen instead is that the topic will quickly move from RBs to the FA action this week, which will probably go one to span three shows over the weekend.

Free agency ruins everything.  But hey, at least it's something entertaining to talk about, especially this offseason.
